there are many reasons to join facebook other than what its supposed to be used for(or why they want you to use it)
This is one of them. As far as I know they don't have a data limit for photos like flickr do(of which you reach and then you have to pay) and so makes for a good way to host stuff.

Re: Please Help!
I use Flickr for photo's and I don't pay for it......this is because I am on BT......which allows me a Pro account with no limits.
I think that facebook has an insidious detrimental effect to many(not all) of the people who use it...and some of them are old enough to know better.
My daughter used to use it for a professional group that she was part of...but no longer uses it at all.(she has been too sick to be interested in anything much)
I don't 'get' the updating of status and such things...and the friends thing...people seem to collect them like some kind of trophy......they aren't real friends and many of them you could fall over them in the street and not know hwo they were.
I cannot think of a single reason why I would use this social networking site.

A bit sad that! He professed to be interested in taking photo's...and entering competitions...ah, but then ours isn't offering an Ipad as a prize.

You have friends on your AccyWeb profile, are they all really friends or just people you know from chatting on here?
Your write your blog on here that anyone can read, how is that different than me changing my facebook status to say what I have done?

Re: Please Help!
I am on Facebook for keeping in contact with family across the globe -its a good way of sharing things with those you love and are connected to. I regularly chat to my mother and father, sister, son, nephews, neices and old friends.

The difference is very subtle Neil........and most of the friends on here I would recognise in the street(apart from Westender who has passed on)...and I don't have that many friends on here. I do not accept friend requests lightly (as many will know)
As for my blog.......well, that has lapsed quite a bit recently and is in no way like what goes on on facebook. As far as I am aware, it is available for members to read, but unavailable for non-members(or that was how it was set up)....to my knowledge, Accyweb has nowhere near the same amount of members....and many of those who profess to be members come her relatively infrequently.
Accyweb is also local, rather than global(even though we have some international members)....I think if you went out and about in the world and stopped someone and asked if they were a member of facebook then you would get many more 'yesses' to that question than if you asked 'are you a member of Accyweb'........and if you have to ask these questions, then, I humbly suggest that, perhaps you do not understand the forum that well.

And that can't be done any other way ?
I accept that if it works for you then all well and good...but it has been badly misused by people for other reasons, and has a poor reputation.
I can do without it in my already busy life.

The so called misuse you talk about isn't compulsory, I'm sure that if you were to try it you would soon see some advantages and lets face it you would use your account sensibly just as, (a quick stab in the dark and I'll make up a statistic as I'm passing through,) 95% of Facebook users do.

Less.......I like your use of the 95%.
I know the misuse(I didn't call it abuse...and there are subtle differences) isn't compulsory, but it does degrade what many people use as a 'tool'.
I cannot think of one single reason I would use FB, as I can do the things I wish to do, using other means....which I am far more comfortable with.

As a general rule of thumb, I think you will find that 95% of the time that I introduce percentages purely as guesswork of course, never with anything factual to back up the statement, 95% will be my favourite estimate of choice, after all if 95% is good enough for 95% of our politicians, then it should be somewhere around 95% close enough for 95% of the general public. (just to clarify one point though), I consider myself to be a member of the 6% that isn't swayed by statistics, I often find them inaccurate!

Re: Please Help!
I just had another look at this thread and was not very please by post 16 from Restless.
The small part of my text he quoted could be read in many different ways, depending on the mind of the reader.
I will repeat my full post to clarify the matter. I don't want anybody who just reads the small part of the quote to think I am taking photos for immoral reasons.
I admit to joining Facebook a few weeks ago.
I had taken photographs for the Accrington and District Welfare for the blind society when they went on a trip to Rivington Barn and later to Galloways ar Penwortham.
I usually print them off and they are pinned up in the Bank Street rooms but some were sent to the President and he put them on Facebook without asking me.
I joined as "Robin Hood" to have a look at them and see what he had written and within an hour of seeing them "Robin Hood " no longer existed.
That was my one and only forage into the site. I am put of by what others tell me they get up to on Facebook, including broken marriage's and clandestine meetings with the other sex.
Bah humbug, am I getting old and past it?
