Re: Saw this Picture and found it amusing :)
Personally, I found it ironically apt and mildly amusing but I can appreciate it would deeply offend some people My problem is in the fact that if a similar poster was circulated relating, say, to the prophet Mohammed the perpetrators would, no doubt, be prosecuted under some religious "hate" legislation. In this case, no one will turn a hair. Why does incitement to religious hatred, or blasphemy as many would perceive it, apply to all religions except Christianity?

Yes exactly the point I was trying to make,I find it totally unfair especially when its a joke and no malice or hatred is intended.

Re: Saw this Picture and found it amusing :)
I am not religious in any shape or form although I was brainwashed to be a Roman Catholic as a youngster but I think that it is in extremely bad taste to take the Mickey out of someone’s beliefs, regardless of what they are.
I didn’t see any disclaimer in the picture to state that it was a joke and that no malice or hatred was intended so in the absence of such it will be seen as offensive by some. Even if there were such a disclaimer it would still be offensive to some.
If the picture were created by a non Catholic, Catholics could see it as offensive. On the other hand if it were created by a Catholic, it is laughing at your own religion and we or rather you Christians are good at that. Re Dave Allen, Dawn French etc.

Re: Saw this Picture and found it amusing :)
Blasphemy against Christianity did used to be a serious offence. I'm a Christian and although I see it as distasteful rather than amusing (I do find Dave Allan and Dawn French very funny though, and Father Ted hilarious) I would tend to just ignore things like that rather than get all high and mighty about them.
Taken at face value it is a misrepresentation of what Christianity really is and when put like that it does of course sound completely bonkers, in much the same way that a biased newspaper report can make a serious news topic seem totally different from the actual events which occurred without actually saying anything untrue.

We have a sense of humour, sadly lacking in some other religions, (think 'Life of Brian') and we also have the ability to laugh at ourselves.

Why do intelligent people think

Re: Saw this Picture and found it amusing :)
I used to ask that same question Niel, and the answer I got is, yes there is a god and that he is the only god, yes he is a good thing and if people don't want to worship him thats up to them, its called free will.

You are quite right it seems it is ok to insult christians.
As for ALL religions being wrong, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I don't believe that people live their lifes by set rules but that is just my belief. I also don't think to follow a religion you need to go to church, chapel or whatever. To my mind a good christian will endeavour to live their life in a way that shows no disrespect for anybody elses beliefs. Shame that can't be said of all religions!!
I don't think people should be expected to explain their beliefs or lack thereof, the choice to believe or not is a personal thing IMO
