Nah ... pea meal bacon on Canadian bannock ... and for those with a sweet tooth, pour maple syrup all over it.

There are plain tea cakes and currant teacakes....Then there are oven bottoms.

Strange isn't it, well, I think it's strange, but then, maybe it's just, yeah, the thread is strange.

Actually this thread is going to turn into an Islamaphobic hate rant. The preamble about that culinary masterpiece, the Bacon Butty, is to deter muslims from reading on. Bacon sandwiches are like kryptonite to muslims.

Re: Teacake is just barmy
That is something they have in common with Jews......bacon is forbidden to them too.
I think if I were in a coma, the smell of frying bacon and toasting toast would bring me out of it.

Re: Teacake is just barmy
Bolton in Ossy may not realise that there are a) teacakes and b) curran' teacakes. Bacon is best on the former.
Larger in surface area than teacakes are muffins, also known as over-bottomers
These different types of bread get called different names in different towns and parts of the country - barmcakes, rolls, baps, cobs amongst them.

I was once working in North Yorkshire, I called into a baker's shop and asked for two buttered Tea Cakes, "pardon", the assistant replied, can I have two buttered Tea Cakes I asked again pointing at the stack of Tea Cakes in the glass display.
"Oh, tha wants Flour Cakes, Flower", she replied as she cut and buttered them.
Another learning curve for Taddy.

Re: Teacake is just barmy
Teacakes and currant teacakes are a different dough to barm cakes or ovenbottoms. Teacakes have sugar in them usually and barm cakes and oven bottoms are the same sort of dough as bread. That was my mums definition and she was a baker by trade. That said as Bob said different areas have different names for things. We like what we call bun loaf which is similar to hot cross buns but I have asked for that in other areas and they had no idea what I meant. It is known as plum bread in Haworth and fruit loaf in others.

Re: Teacake is just barmy
I'm not sure if this is something similar: Homestyle Biscuit. You can get breakfast on one of these at Timmy's , and wash it down with a double-double, or, better still, an x-large four by four. It's not bad if you are in a hurry ... say you slept in a little and had to grab something on the way to work.
Hot Breakfast Sandwich | Tim Hortons
Some of the best I've seen ... only in pics unfortunately ... are those from Martin's in a place called Oswaldtwistle.
I think I'm going to try my breakfast bacon on fried bread this morning ... bread fried in bacon grease, with a big dollop of HP.
