Well, I guess you were on your best behaviour too when you were courting your good lady........I certainly don't recall marrying a grumpy old walrus....but sometimes that is what it feels like.
I never got flowers or chocolates(not even after major surgery). How long have you been together......40 years....well you should have learned some male defence tricks in that time. And I for one can't believe that you haven't.
