Yes I know I had three days before xmas and I would have bought it, but, the post office was inundated with last minute gifts to deliver from others like me.
I thought sod it, I wouldn't normally have sent her anything anyway.

I'm panicking! I can't find anything on our Christmas holiday insurance which covers me for the 'End of the World'!
Should I claim for a broken leg now and spend the money on shortbread, good whiskey and cigarettes?
After all, the end of the world could last a long time.

Second thought-
Thinks- what the heck do I need shortbread for?

Didn't he tweak it a bit to make it end then? According to Wikipedia:

McKenna expressed "novelty" in a computer program which purportedly produces a waveform known as "timewave zero" or the "timewave". "Timewave zero" is a numerological formula that purports to calculate the ebb and flow of "novelty", defined as increase over time in the universe's interconnectedness, or organized complexity. Based on McKenna's interpretation of the King Wen sequence of the I Ching, the graph appears to show great periods of novelty corresponding with major shifts in humanity's biological and sociocultural evolution. He believed that the events of any given time are recursively related to the events of other times, and chose the atomic bombing of Hiroshima as the basis for calculating his end date of 16 November 2012.
