Strange, I've used my 95 for some serious work and never got it below 12 hours and that included being on conf calls and teh like for ages almost none stop.

The industry standard I mention is from the usual people who review high end kit like this, El Reg, All About Symbian, engagdget, gizmodo etc. all quote it at 18 hours of moderate/heavy use which is fine.

I also slag Microsoft of from good basis! Look at all teh issues with updates, buffer overflows, security issues. Its not exactly a solid platform now is it.

Yes it is its perfect for your average home user. It works out of the box and requires very little knowledge from someone to get the best out of it. Not everyone wants to have to know how it works to use it. Its just like driving a car...I dont need to know how the engine and gearbox work to drive it. Thats what MS provide.Only now are some Linux distros getting up to the same speed and functionality.

If it wasnt for MS I bet we wouldnt all be sitting here now using a PC to surf the net and talk. We might be using Amiga type 6 or ST etc, but it would unlikely to be similar equipment and interface to what we use at work. If it wasnt for MS it wouldnt be expected that what started life as a piece of office equipment, would evolve into a PC that most people have no issue storing in their front room.

And I`ll put windows 2008 server up against any other server product for medium sized businesses, including anything Netware,Solaris,Unix,Linux,BSD for its useability, functionality and ease of maintenance straight out of the box, and ROI over any period.

so if its so stable why is

a) Vista the latest and greatest version getting SOOOO much bad press and crap thrown about it?
b) there are such holes in the OS that script kiddies with so little experience can disable, wreck and generally casue mayhem on an almost daily basis such that AV systems all feel the need to update daily.

People with little knowledge use it but I would argue they could equally use Linux and could have for some significant amount of time.

If PC's hadn't been the way we evolved something else would have come in, the Amiga or ST were equally capable of being developed in teh way that PCs have. I'm certain that we wouldn't still be sat here with teh same spec amiga as we had 15 years ago.

In my job I look after far too many servers 90% AIX, 10% windows. these are by a country mile the most time consuming for maintenance, and callouts due to infrastructure issues. There is more downtime for upgrades, patches to a matter of 10x what we have on Unix. We even are at the point of looking to migrate these services off Windows as the 'cost' of ownership to the business is so much greater.

Well as your signature says I shouldnt get drawn into a technical arguement with a Technical God so I wont. I`ll just take my experiences, my knowledge of the best platforms for each application, years of the business, and the rather large network I am responsible for (and my new iphone) and view another thread.

I can't believe it has no bluetooth. I was interested in one until I found that out. Does the new one have bluetooth?

I use my phone all the time in the car when going to/from work so would be stuffed without bluetooth.

Then use something else. Would you use a car if it wouldnt start every time you wanted it to ? A kettle that you werent happy with. Download Linux and install it, buy a MAC, buy a symbian mobile phone...the list goes on.

And yes the iphone has bluetooth. :

The iphone works fine with in car bluetooth.
The new software is excellent. Due to me being abroad all the time I don't need to upgrade to the 3G iphone. Data rates are scandalous abroad so my old iphone with the new software is fine. App store is excellent, a great, simple one stop shop that everyone knows how to use already.
