The Limp Handshake.

I try not to be guided by first impressions of people, however, why am I always put off by gentlemen who have a weak/limp handshake ? Ok, don't want my knuckles crushing, but just makes me shudder when I am offered one of these, and the memory of this first greeting always stays with me ..

Some men would tickle the palm or your hand when they did this, and seemingly had 'rude' implications. Uuumph, hadn't had one of those for a bit..LOL.

Was always embarrassed by the Europeon way of kissing on both cheeks, but as we travel abroad more .. getting more used to it.

Do give my friends a hug if not seen for a while, but mainly it's 'Hi, how are you' (hoping they are not going to tell you if they are suffering with an ulcer or summat).

Why do we always finish with 'See ya' later' (some with American type accent) knowing full well you may not see them for about another 6 months.
Au revoir is lovely, isn't it, if it weren't French.

I too hate the limp handshake and have made a point of trying to develop a really strong one. Funny, though, you find that sometimes the weakest handshakes are from the most surprising people. I think that sometimes there is a little bit of sexism in it - in that some blokes don't think women should be in business so they don't want to shake their hands, yet you see them shaking other blokes hands much more strongly.

The other side of this is the crushing handshake, when you feel like you need a trip to casualty for an x-ray afterwards.

Or, the long handshake when they won't let go!

Re: The Limp Handshake.

But don't you put your left cheek to their left cheek? If you put your left cheek to their right cheek you'd be doing the tango.

Oh my gawd gal, what have I started, of course you have to put the same right/left cheek to the other person's right/left cheek, but is it right to right first or left to left first .. get it ? In other words, and don't tell me you don't understand this one .. does the friend you are greeting go stage right or stage left .....

Now that will confuse everyone else ... LOL.
