Re: Using heat from a Crematorium........

since most crematoriums are situated in graveyards the excess heat could be utilized during the winter/cold periods for thawing out the ground out on the vacant plots so the Council cry-babies and thieving undertakers have no excuse for not burying the dead in a timely manner during old spells.

anyone remember the HBC mini scandal of a few years back when the underpaid/overworked Council employees were caught weighing in the gold teeth and 'Grandmas' wedding rings found in the cremains.... they thought it was a perk of the job, now it's supposed to go into the Council general fund to keep the Council tax down .

Question , anyone know if and how much shows up as on the annual financial statement

Personally, I have no problem with it.
I don't consider it disrespectful to the deceased person or to their family........after all the cremation is dealing with human remains in a dignified way, and the by product is being made use of by the community at large......for the good of that community.
Recycling taken to its limit.

I agree with MargaretP - the heat should be used if it is economically practical.
However, we shouldn't allow more use of the dead than that.
I chillingly recall the film Soylent Green, and the phrase 'Soylent Green is people'.

I have no problem with the heat generated being used for some other purpose.

Though if we all get a little sack of grit next year, delivered from the crematory, they might be walking on thin ice.

Seems like a sensible solution to a problem that's plaguing the UK at present. It also aids in saving resources, reduces emissions, saves land from being used in the form of graveyards & you'd be helping your community even when you've gone. Personally I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Again, I have no problem with what they do with the grit either...after all. most families only want a little bit.......and most of them will not really know that it isn't really their relative(or that is what I was told).....it is just symbolic. If we can heat the town, and keep the roads clear then our dear departed will have done a wonderful last job.

The amount of heat recycled is going to be a very minuscule amount from a body, most of it will be from the fuel needed to get the body to combust.
Well done Margaretr for mixing your favourite sifi film with reality you make AccyWeb so much more imaginative, thank you.

That is true, so it makes sense to re-use as much of it as possible.

Use the heat created, and lessen the carbon footprint, by cutting transport costs to the crematorium.
