Washday will never be the same

All's fair in love and washing

A new washing machine incorporating fingerprinting technology has been unveiled to force men to do more jobs around the house.

Created by Spanish designer Pep Torres, the Your Turn machine forces a different person to load and operate the washing machine each time.

Couples have to register their fingerprints using the built-in sensor, which is linked up to a home computer.

After the fingerprints of both the woman and the man have been processed, Your Turn will only operate if a different fingerprint is placed on the sensor on each occasion.

The innovative machine was designed as a Father's Day gift after Torres was approached by a white goods manufacturer.

"I thought it would be good to finish with macho man from the ice age who doesn't do anything around the house except drink beers," Mr Torres explained to the BBC.

"It's an invention that has a philosophy behind it and I hope both women and men will think it's time for the men to do more around the house."

In addition to forcing couples to share household chores, Your Turn has an added advantage in that it is childproof, as only recognised fingerprints can start the washing cycle.

I think they can pull their weight so long as you programme their finger prints into it too. It's a good gimmick but would it really be practical?
