Will part of me be scrap metal ?
Whilst discussing Park's hip replacement ... I have had one now for 24 years ... had a rather morbid thought of what happens to this stainless steel after cremation. Don't think the furnaces will reach a high enough temperature to melt it down.
What do they do with our nuts and bolts ? Is it sent to the scrap yard for recycling? Put into landfill ? Does seem a shame to waste it ...
Don't mention this thread to GypoDec please ...

Re: Will part of me be scrap metal ?
Wasn't there a bit of a 'kerfuffle' a few years back (30 odd yrs) when someone asked in a letter to the Observer what the Crematorium did with all recovered gold teeth/ fillings and wedding rings, seems at the time it was a " perk" for the stoker , but the fuss caused a change in the rules , and now any gold or valubles recovered are sold for scrap and any money realized is used to keep the cost of running the crematorium down. Guess its one way for HBC to keep the Council tax down .
I suppose one of the Council members on the budget committee who uses Accy web should be able to tell us how much goes into the black columns every year

Re: Will part of me be scrap metal ?
Sorta' remember this Steeljack ... then I could be of use to the community after my passing ?..
Do you think this qualifies for a posthumous MBE or summat .. or at least a reduction on my council tax whilst I am still around ?

Madame I must point out, nothing goes in Malt whisky except more Malt Whisky, I can forgive a drop of Scottish spring water, Coke should never be in the same sentence, let alone in the vicinity of this Majestic Spirit... & God forbid Jaysay should have his "Nuts" immersed in this liquid Gold!!!

Now, kate we all know, there is no 'may' about it, at least I have come up with the only good reason for it ever to be opened.

Re: Will part of me be scrap metal ?
personaly i think the gold teeth shoudl be put into the urn so as to make a rattle so the grand kids can still play with grandad or grandma after they are gone.
teh hips coudl be colelcted and simply screwed to toilet walls as grab rails for the disabled
on a similar line of thinking if somone has a prostetic leg or arm do they hand you back an urn and a limb ?
you could keep teh cost of the funeral down by doing away with teh urn and have your self poured into the hollowed out limb , now that woudl look cool on the mantle peice :-)

Re: Will part of me be scrap metal ?
Here in France, all jewellry is returned to the N o K in a sealed envelope with 3 signatures on the envelope - watch, rings, necklaces etc and all other posessions that the deceased took into hospital with them, before either creamation or burial

Re: Will part of me be scrap metal ?
lets face it with all these cash for gold adverts i dare say most people will have reclaimed their loved ones rings before they have drawn their last breath .
i believe a woman in burnley merely sneezed and within the blink of an eye her kids had pawned off her wedding ring
