Accrington Stanley football club.

Have been working in Crewe today, and was asked a question I realised I did not know the answer to ... why is the club called Accrington Stanley? Anyone know why we have the name Stanley in the title? Was it named after a pub or a persons name or what?

Origin of the name Accrington "Stanley"

Cheers Cazzer for the website information. Makes absolute sense of course. Here is a photo, kindly taken by Owd Bert, showing the old Stanley Arms.
