Red Phone Boxes
Hi, I am on a "mission" - with the help of Owd Bert (who took this photo for me) I want to record all red phones boxes left in the Accrington area. Do you know of any near you please?
Here is the first one we spotted - the corner of Church Street and Holme Street

Red Phone boxes
Thanks for that info. Keith. Oh dear, its beginning to look as though Accrington only has one red phone box and one Victorian post box left. No clock! No Grammar school! No Sacred Heart Church! No Rists! Oh dear! We are in a bad way!

Bets
Hi Tealeaf, will keep my ears to the ground, but .. on a more positive note, the Karrimor building at the bottom of Avenue Parade has actually got scaffolding around it now, and work is commencing! They are saving the building - its gonna be transformed into shops and offices! Honestly! I do not lie!

And yet...
..The Karrimor building is not really one of the more attractive buildings in Accy; still, it's nice to see it being put to good use. I'm a little bit puzzled about the shops, though - surely we have enough empty shells in the market development without adding more....unless, of course, it's going to be a "all for a quid" emporium.
I suspect this development will have the emphasis on residential, with possibly a few shops on the ground floor (A Witherspoons, perhaps).......It's just a shame that nothing could have neen done with the Sacred H. - that would have made an excellent small/start-up business centre.
As regards the phone boxes - well, it's the same everywhere. The only place you see them now are within urban conservation areas ( I think there is a quota)or national parks or on Royal/State procession routes down here.
