St Peters School c 1920's

Has anybody got any photos of the school around this time or any photos at all? I've been into the library but to no avail.St Peters was a big part of my families life about that time.My grandad being in the choir about 1920 and attending the school.I've been doing my family tree for .....ages and now I'm trying to get a bit deeper into everyday life. Thanks for any help. Its a great site, you can spend hours looking through everything.

Re: St Peters School c 1920's

I suggest you post on another of our forums asking about your family name, address, places of work. Somebody could well come up with photos , whereas they may not even look at St Paul's School thread. Have a look at the thrtead headed 'John kelly's Photos'
Have you tried Benjamin Hargreaves' School, or the vicar at St Paul's?

Wouldn't be much point, as she's asking about St Peter's. Late detention for you, Dobson and pay more attention in future!

OK, jendaw, you're welcome. Think you'll have your work cut out finding photos of the old St Peter's school, but here's hoping.

Hi jendaw66,
No, the two, I think schools were in Willows Lane on the left hand side going up from Blackburn Road, between Brown Street and Eden Street. I think that Wolstenholme's Funeral Parlour (or similar) was built in that area later, but can't confirm what's there now because I don't live in Accy. I used to be in St Peter's Cubs.

Re: St Peters School c 1920's

Although when growing up, St Peter's School was NOT my area of town, I was always led to believe that Wolstenholme's funeral WAS built on the site of the old school.

Quite right, Atarah, it was. I'd love to see a shot of it, as it was a strange-looking building which seemed to have been designed in almost random fashion.
