Re: The Arndale Clock
Perhaps if they brought it back they could alter the mechanism, so that instead of chiming the hour, it only chimed when another shop in the Arndale closed down.

Wouldnt that make it chime more than once an hour? I used to come with the kids from Ramsbottom to see the clock, when they were older of course they didnt pester to see it, but came to look with the first grandchild once and found to my dismay that it was gone, often wondered about the fate of it. I would love to be able to take my second family to see it, and hopefully can do one day.

The Arndale Clock
Is it still lying underneath the Arndale I wonder? Think it was 1987 when the Arndale opened. All that money spent on the clock. Shame, cos it could now go back in its old place. The cafe is not there now, in fact, there's nothing there now really.

I wonder how many people would really like see the return of the clock. I remember at the time it wasn't universally popular. My own view is that it added something to the centre. People use to go into the Arndale just to see the clock.
Where it is now I'm not sure. I'll see if I can find out.

Re: The Arndale Clock
I liked it. It was unique and added a bit of colour and humour to the place. Lets get it up n running and if the Arndale reaches 25 then put it back.

Re: The Arndale Clock
I'm having a meeting with the manager of the Arndale tomorrow about something else - I'll ask him where it is.

Ask him why the Ruddy Tree and Trimmings are up already too!! Pathetic, gets earlier every year, why not just leave the ruddy things up all year and be done with it!!! Bah Humbug!!

Taggy, my sentiments too......we have barely kissed goodbye to Bonfire night, and the blooming trimmings are up for Christmas.
I think we should confine Christmas....the trees, the trimmings and everything else, to December.

Re: The Arndale Clock
I asked the question - this is the answer
The clock was removed by the people who installed the cafe and they paid for it to be dismantled. The clock is still there under the Arndale but the cost involved in rebuilding it and reinstalling it is too great in the current climate.
Unfortunately, they weren't able to say how much it would cost to put it back. Plus, if it was installed there would presumably be some running costs. All down to money I'm afraid.
