Anyone have any ideas where this rather splendid example of late Victorian architectural exhuberance might be???

Sorry about that John, the marks on the lower window ledge are a parking notice in white paint, it's not really pigeon poop. It's unclear because the pic has to be reduced to be able to post it.

Is it Oxford Street?

Told you it was too easy. Yes, it's on Bath Street. Interesting arch though, I wonder what it was built for.

The arch is a loading bay, built for the horse and cart. But you know the Victorians...it had'nt to ber just functional, but aestetic as well.

Are you certain about that Tealeaf, the ledge at the bottom of the doors has to be almost five feet from the ground. It would have to have been an unnaturally high cart.

Try and find a piccy of the 2 or even 4 horse carts (I forget the term for them)...they're pretty big and higher off the ground than your typical 1 horse cart...it's like comparing a transit to a artic.

On examining the original photo I came across this sticking out of the wall, so I guess you are right mate.

Bath Street building

I think that although it has been used as a loading bay, originally is was the window of the mill`s Engine House. The girder sticking out would originally be used to hoist in heavy parts of the engine.
