I always thought that the top end finished at the canal bridge, the middle went down to the Forts and that is where the bottom started.
At Mount Pleasant the school was divided into two houses Enfield which finished at the canal bridge, and Hyndburn which covered all below.
Does anyone remember going on trips with the clubs if your dad was a member usually Southport.

Great pics Dave...again!

You know, hon, I don't think I would like it now. I believe that I prefer the memories to the realities. Just took a walk thru Mercer Park with Mr. Google ... and those swings How can the kids of fun on tame things like they have now? In my day (ok., I'm getting a little Old Fartish, I know) they had real things for us to play on. And I still have a scar between my eyes to prove it. And I got my arse tanned for getting hurt Some of the things we did (I think I mentioned waxing the slide in another thread) would have the health and safety nazis soiling their gotchies
Used to walk those fields all the time ... they still had a stile at the end of Rishton Rd. so that folks wouldn't have to open the gate. In my day, there was still a working farm there ... Ringstonhalgh ... maybe it's still there. There used to be wild blackberries to pick, and the birds nesting was fun ... and there was another danger waiting down by the Stink: an old frayed rope you could swing on out over the toxic waste.

Middle Club went to Blackpool ... a ride up the Tower, and the Circus with Charlie Cairoli and Paul ... and a quick tour of the zoo. And on the way there ... 2/6d for the first kid to spot the Tower. Two and a kick went a long ways back then. Only went one year to Mount Pleasant ... my mom took me out and sent me to All Sinners ... I think it had something to do with her belting a teacher who made me eat figs, which I promptly threw up all over the lunch table.

Now that brought back memories - I had forgotten about Paul till you mentioned him, but the image sprang to mind immediately - pointed hat, white face, baggy pants and all. Can't find a non-copyright pic on google otherwise I would have posted one.
We used to go to the Tower aquarium as well... but I've never been up the Tower.

Re: Today in pictures
Part 1.On a wet day, with a smile on my face, and a song in my heart, I ventured forth, and came fifth. Anyway here is Today in Pictures.
1. Up Burnley Road, past the Industrial Estate.
2. Past the colliery memorial.
3. Never knew where this was now I do, just short of Martholme Grange(as was)
4. Turning Left down Martholme Lane.
5. Through a small Hamlet.
6. Quick look at the "jam jar window"
7. A right turn down towards the waste water center.
8. Through another cluster of converted farms.
9. The lofty spires of the water treatment site.

Re: Today in pictures
Part 2. Today in Pictures, a study in moistness.
10. I really am getting fed up now.
11. Up past the golf course, towards sunnybank, (thats a joke).
12. Left turn to the Hyndburn pub, you can tell by the speed I am "fair legging it".
13. Down to the dip.
14. Up towards the Sparth.
15. Through the Woodlands.
16. Up the canal brew.
I was glad to get home today.
