I did drive the coach once or twice for Batty Holt tours when they had the contract for both Burnley and Blackburn Football teams.
I got the sack for walking into the dressing room at Manchester United when Burnley were well down at half time, I asked Jimmy Adamson if I could have a pot of tea just as he was giving the team a rollocking.
Adam Blacklaw was the goal keeper at the time.

I have never been to a football match in my life apart from the few times I drove the coach.
Last year I met a man who had restored the old coach and had it repainted in his own livery, he had removed the Ribbledale Batty Holt panel from the side and let me have it.
That is my photo for today.
We once went on a day trip to Scarborough with Ribblesdale Batty Holt. The driver had to ask passengers for the way

Re: Today in pictures

Wasn't me max but first time I did a Blackpool - London Victoria with Standerwicks Gay Hostess motorway service I had to ask a passenger how to get from Archway to Victoria coach station.

I once did a mystery tour at RBH and asked the passengers where they would like to go, we finished up at Brimham Rocks over Blubberhouses. Mystery no more.

No 8 is one for Davemac taken in the grounds of Arden Hall
It wasn't a good day for snaps today, but you manages to get the colours, and number 8 has, I think 3 fungapuses in close proximity

Re: Today in pictures

Today in Pictures, an overcast day, and not much to see.

1. Wickthings are still feeding, despite the season coming to an end.
2. In my quest for different fungi, this is a scratch and sniff picture, its growing on dung.
3. Looking across the valley, from a location between the motorway and the Leeds Liverpool.
4. The boat yard at Altham.
5. Across the valley again.
6. I never noticed that pond before.
7. Looking toward Pendleton Moor.
8. Looking back to the canal.
9. Almost home, looking over to Pendle Hill again.
10. One last glance.

Nice set of autumn colours there, if you look at picture 2, I was on that hill on Saturday taking snaps in your direction.

Re: Today in pictures

hello all, havent posted for a while, but here goes, went up Fairfield yesterday, did the full horseshoe, my intention was to wild camp on summit, however i had lost my emergency water, and usually i find a spring to fill my water bladder from, however visibility was about 30 feet, so decided in the intrest of safety, that wandering from the paths hunting for water on the slopes, wasnt a good idea, so completed the horseshoe and came back home, bumped into some kind soul called Mathew, who shared some water with me about 3/4 way round (i was quite dehydrated by this time, carrying 15kg around)

not good for pics but here are some i managed, hope you like em

some dramatic shots there, very wildernessy if thats a word. Slight problem viewing as the size is to big for the page, so have to slide up down and side to side, if you don't mind me saying, a re-size would make it fit, and easier to view, 500kb is the recommended size.

the "bird" followed me for about 3 peaks, it perched itself as in the photo and kept "kawwing" at me, guess its used to being fed walkers buttiess, we sat there looking at each other for about 20 mins, i personally believe it to be a raven, as it was to big to be a crow.

the shots where taken with my standard 18-55mm lens, i had my 70-200 in my rucksack, but knew if i had taken the time to dig it out it would have flown off, so we enjoyed each others company for a while, the pic was taken on summit of Great Rigg, i was sat on the summit cairn, and the raven was about 20-25 feet away.
i was trying to get the atmospheric clouds "pouring off" Hart Crag/Dove Crag in the shot, it was one of the highlights of the trip.

i have about 20 seconds of it on video on my phone but the lens was a little blurry, but you can plainly hear its a raven.

thanks margaret, i have even talked mrs church into a trip out next week, only she refuses to stop out,lol

the life saver (mathew) who gave me some water had his parents with him, and they looked in their seventies, i stayed with them a while and had a chat he was a retired headmaster, he fell over a couple of times whilst i was with him, but told me not to worry has he had good recovery lol

they took a different path to me,and we bode our farewells, but it gave me hope that if i ever reach that age i too could still make it out there, just dont know about carrying my pack, time to start training a shetland pony methinks!

because of the conditions , its a hdr pic, made up of five shots taken with different exposures, cs6 is quite good at removing any ghosting, but not perfect, and like me it couldnt keep its beak shut, lol

Re: Today in pictures

I went to the Isle of White a few years ago and walked up to the top of the Battery(it is a big hill that overlooks the lighthouse)...I wanted to get a good shot of the light house and figured it would be great from that vantage point. I was accompanied on my climb up there by an elderly couple...both fell walkers....both well into their seventies.
I was gasping like a stranded cod fish when we got to the top, they were hardly breaking sweat.
So age alone isn't a barrier to such pursuits...but you need to have a like minded companion...and mine isn't like minded.
