Great pics again Dave -especially love the dry-stone walls - so beautifully Lanky!
A local artist, Steve Townsend did a fab painting called "Mending wall" featuring a dry stone wall crumbling and covered in moss -saw it over 25 yrs ago and still remember it.
You dont think about it when you are among it, but yes you are right, I wonder what other things are thought of as being "Lanky"

Dry stone walls always bring to mind the Yorkshire Dales for me. Being limestone there, they seem to stand out more because of their colour, and they don't attract moss the way the sandstone ones in Lancashire do.
There are also miles of them in the Cotswolds, to me the part of England where the local stone is used to best effect in its beautiful villages.
Thanks Rob for these - I've never seen Darwen Tower up close but to me it always looks like a rocket ready for take off, especially when seen from the motorway coming from Preston, when you can see through the arches at the bottom, making them look even more like tail fins.

Have been pondering this question -for me it's the particular colour of green that the county has -it has always been a favourite colour of mine. I also think the shape of the Penines -with the flat topped hills, is another thing. The rows of terraced stone houses often going uphill and I love cobbled streets even though they are more and more difficult to find as are proper corner shops.
Last time i was in Accy I saw a lot of rows of houses that had been sand-blasted back to their original colour and they looked great. In my kitchen at home i have a pin board full of postcards and photos featuring my favourite Lakeland fells, Pendle Hill and a Lowry painting among others -he captured something of the feeling of the North with the factories, chimneys and houses. I always think that the view across Accy from the Coppice would have made a great subject for him as it has everything in it.

I wonder what your husband and sons make of your home town/county. Have they visited much?

Part 1. Today in Picture, Started off moist and ended with getting a sweat on. As today is "The Big Shop" it was a quick walk around the park.
1. Off down the road to the canal.
2. Down the slippery cobbles onto the canal.
3. There must have been a storm out to sea, where did those islands come from?
4. Off the canal and down the road.
5. By the square.
6. Down to the park.
7. The park looms, I'm getting giddy, the sun is out.
8. The way is pointed out.
9. A seat in the shade.
10. The new construction is now open.
Part 2. Today in Pictures, a quick tootle.
11. Heading back to the gate.
12. Out of the gates.
13. Back up to the canal.
14. Off the canal and up the brew.
15. Then it off to do "The Big Shop"
1. Off down the road to the canal.
2. Down the slippery cobbles onto the canal.
.
Now Dave -you know I have a thing about cobbles -lovely pics again.

I saw some teenage boys breaking off bit of the banking on the canal the other day Dave.
They were on the Con club side of the banking...up by the Sefton park development.
I wanted to peyl(peel) their backsides....alas, it is no longer allowed.

You should have give them a salvo with your catapult, then legged it.
I have walked down that side myself on the return journey, if you come off at the Altham bridge, go over the bridge, and just past the bridge on the Sefton side there are some steps down. makes a change to see the canal from the other side
