Sorry DiG, I would have liked to visit both Cathedrals but the coach driver only gave us one hour there and then it was off to the Dock.
If you look at the fifth picture in my second set taken at Albert Dock you will see I tried to get one of the Pope's Wigwam.
I got caught in the rain in haslingden .. got soaked .. and my poor nephew was in my back garden getting soaked ... came home and he was hiding in the bus shelter trying to stay dry!!!
Today in Pictures, it's a walk around Foxhill Bank, in between showers.
1. Well it has been raining.
2. Tinker Brook as it passed through.
3. Its still passing through.
4. The reservoir.
5. The area has become established.
6. A style no longer used.
7. A bit of the football pitches and a bit of the reserve.
8. Looks like Autumn is just around the corner.
The last few snaps from my recent holiday at Southport, I hope I haven't bored you too much.
This time they are all taken in Liverpool Cathedral.
The last one was taken through my hotel bedroom window which I kept closed so the aircon would keep running.
It was taken with my little Panasonic Lumix and the odd thing about it is the dark sky.. Apart from a bit of cropping I never manipulate my photos, they are straight from the SD card but when I took the photo of the moon the sky was fairly light at 10PM and the moon didn't stand out as much. The camera has a 20 optical +20 digital zoom and was set on auto. Very odd.
The Nikon didn't produce the same results and I tried all sorts of different setting.
That's much better than any of my attempts at catching the moon, I've tried and tried - just get a blurry blob. My camera is a humble Nikon Coolpix 4100 -it's about 10 years old.
Need an upgrade!

Aye, I noticed the top of Paddy's Wigwam when I was looking.
I used to have a bird's eye view on Paddy's wigwam -I lived in Mulberry Court during my lasy year in L'pool. It was on the corner of Hope street and just across from the cathedral. It has lovely modern stained glass inside - worth seeing. There was a nice (and cheap) café under the cathedral -all the local dropouts and tramps used to go there!
A couple of photos of me outside the cathedral on my Graduation day -one with my mum! I'm actually now a bit older than she was on the photo -scary!

My brother Robert "Zach" Taylor was at Liverpool Uni between 1968 and 73. He stayed very near the Proddy Cathederal and drunk in the pub at the bottom of the street, he told me he had never been inside the cathedral even though he passed it every day.
Somebody mentioned the floods in Todmorden, the photos below were sent to me during last years floods by my brother.
Both he and my sister luckily live on the hill side so they wasn't affected by the flood.

The street in 6 must have been names after previous flooding problems.

Saw some footage earlier on Sky news showing the flooding and damage in Tod -looked pretty bad -they were in Walsden.
My Aunt and Uncle used to be really high up when they lived in Style House - not sure exactly where they are now but I know they have a railway line which passes behind their garden - hidden behind some kind of embankment...

Good to hear your brother and sister have escaped the flooding in Todmorden Russell.
Here are a few photos of Paddy's wigwam taken in 2008. We baptised our new camper van by taking it all the way to Southport (!) on a small private site by the pier. Had a couple of days in Liverpool by train and saw the Tall Ships Race.
One of the pics shows the Anglican cathedral from the steps of the RC one. John Moores University were having a graduation ceremony there so we didn't see much of the inside of that one.
The RC cathedral was under construction I think when I was a student in Preston. I used to go to Liverpool occasionally with my flatmate for concerts at the Philharmonic hall then I had a boyfriend who was teaching there and I used to go and stay with him. He's not a teacher any more... http://www.billstott.co.uk/
I wish I had been able to see the Wigwam, I thought the trip was to visit both cathedrals and then Albert dock.
I can't think of anywhere apart from a small stretch of road through Walsden where the railway line get flooded Dianne so I would think your relation would be high and dry.
Almost all the track runs higher than the valley.
Photographs below are from the Todmorden History society and show Walsden station, the third one is a few hundred yards away and the lady nearest the left of the photo is my grandma.
