Actually... I have a confession to make. I posted ten pics to the last photocomp - having only posted one to the previous one, I forgot we were only supposed to put up five...
Anyway no one said anything so I kept my mouth shut but you can slap my wrist now if you like... Please, I'm waiting!
More shots from our trip to Townend last Saturday.
Carved cradle
Carving on fireplace
Lovely old door and staircase beyond
Looking down the stairs from the top
Bottom of the stairs
Victorian wedding dress on display
Give us a kiss...
Carving over a fireplace with a row of small smiley faces
Spiral staircase made of solid oak blocks. Given that my mobility is still somewhat impaired, I'm amazed I managed to negotiate this, both up and down, with the help of Richard and a sturdy stick. Made me feel good though having done it (if somewhat exhausted!)
Today in Pictures, a walk up to Jamestone Quarry. (Grane Road)
1.Jamestone Quarry, alternating layers of sandstone and shale, ideal for quarrying.
2. In the distance , Musbury Heights another quarry site.
3. Obvious signs of habitation.
4. The quarry started life in the 18th century as a local quarry, when the railway arrived in 1846 the quarry expanded at a massive rate.
5. In 1870 the quarry employed 3000 men to cope with demand.
6. You are never far away from a turbine.
7. The stone from here was exported to India, the Far East and America through the ports of Liverpool and London.
8. I'm not going any higher, its putting my lamps out.
9. Another long gone way of life.
10. You looking at me!
I hope you were paying attention to all the facts, as I will be handing out homework sheets.

I did notice but didn't say anything -I think it will be enough if you just stand in the corner for a while.

Have made copious notes and will study them later...
The water almost has a turquoise-green tinge to it -do you think that's because of the particular stone that was quarryed there?

My thoughts were that it is the shale layers that descend down through the quarry and the gasses that they contain, I only know this due to the Fracking debate. You can see from the picture the sandstone layers almost impervious to the weather, but the shale layer slopes away due to it being easily eroded. If it's not that, it's summat else.
Thanks Frank, hope to be off again to the lakes on Monday in our camper, not used for two years. Should have been going today but Richard discovered he had another engagement tonight withh the Morris men, so we decided to give the weekend a miss, what with it being the school holidays as well. Hope the weather holds for us!
