Since Shillelagh took us for a walk last Sunday I have got more adventurous and strayed further afield, I think she should be helping me pay for the clog irons I am wearing out.
Yesterday it was Cock Bridge and Clayton Hall.
Today I did about two miles around the canal bank at Barrowford.

No.1 Starting from the lower car park.
No.2 Looking along the canal.
No.3 More locks.
No.4 The reservoir looked a bit low.
N0.5 Lock keepers cottage.
No.6 Boats moored at the highest point on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, the locks are all downhill from there on.
No.7 A very welcome sight, a brew and chocolate cake later and I was ready for off again.
No.8 Sorry ducky, nowt for you.
No.9 Green reflection in the water.
No.10 A leaky lock.

The butty van's never there when I go there. Did you go up to Foulridge tunnel?

No Frank, as a beginner to this walking lark I am only doing short ones.
I had thought of driving to Foulridge and taking a few pictured there but finished up at Barrowford instead. Maybe the tunnel will be next on the agenda. Weather permitting.

If you don't mind travelling a bit before you walk. The canal side at Glasson Dock is a nice walk. You can walk as far as you want and back to Glasson Dock for a pub lunch

Today in Pictures took me from St Mary's Burial Ground to the Millennium Woods and back again.

1. Start point the burial ground.
2. I was going to say a couple of Ladybirds, but on close inspection I don't think one is a lady.
3. The direction we are heading.
4. Big trees from little thingys.
5. Puff Balls.
6. You wait for one, and two come along at once.
7. Looking over to Hapton Scouts.
8. You wouldn't want that flying up your nostrils.
9. A gate not used for a while.
10. The direction we are now heading.

Nice ones Dave, where are the Millennium Woods?
It could be another new experience for me to go there.
My car is a 4X4 but my legs are really only good for firm level ground so I am starting my walks with nice gentle strolls.
The camera is good company and is a good excuse to keep stopping for a rest.

I am still a bit stiff from Sunday but loosening up a bit now.
A good bottle of McGuigans gold label white Aussie plonk is a good lubricating agents for weary bones.
Jen told me about a Transport Festival at the East Lancs Railway Museum at Bury on Sunday.
That's more my interest so hopefully I will be there.

I misread her text, I thought she said she was going on her Velocette.
I was visualising her with Tedster clinging on to her while sat on the pillion.
Now that would have been one photo worth waiting for.

Its right next to Martholme water treatment works, its not very big, a tree was planted for every baby born in the millennium year, and a board inside gives the names of all the babies born in the borough that year. I link the walk with a stroll through the field to St Marys Burial ground, I would say it is flat but a dirt footpath, and not longer than 30 minutes walk.

Look forward to the pictures of the trains after your visit.

Jen was going to use the Velocette, but she changed it for the Harley.

No.2 I carefully avoided the white mushroom like things, they are there hoping people will trip on them and go for a dip in the water.

No.5 He looked annoyed because I didn't share my choccy biccy with him.
No.6 I can see four bridges there.
No.7 Looks like a bonny place to live.
No.8 Just another "Happy snap".

Today in Pictures, Mercer Park and a bit of the Churchyard.

1. The Autumn flowering plants are just starting to make an appearance.
2. Mercer House, for a short time this used to be my office, bottom right window.
3. Begonias are still trying their best, other summer bedding has given up the ghost.
4. Looks like a Campanula, but will throw that up in the air.
5. Just a couple of ends after lunch.
6. Looking up toward the memorial.
7. Have been stalking this butterfly all summer for a good shot, the Speckled Wood Butterfly on a Sedum.
8. Growing on the "footy" area.
9. In All Saints Churchyard, a Brittlegill Fungi, one day I will be on the floor like this and someone will give me CPR.
10. I went all giddy when I found this, its a Giant Polypore, the size of dustbin lid, it's the biggest fungi I have come across so far.
