Practice is the best way to learn. You don't have to explain a manipulated photo that's what photoshop is for. If you ask a professional photographer how many of them manipulate photos, he will say they all do.
In my original post, I said I`d done nothing to pics except resize, then afterwards realized that the last pic had been altered slightly. I just wanted to be honest and and correct what i`d said earlier.
1. The sun has gone over the hill.
2. It appears to be a turbine day.
3. Transporting power.
4. And now the wet bits.
5. I think after this shot I should get wet.
6. There we are, moist.
7. The waterfall from one side.
8. And the other.
9. Pot House Lane.
10. A moment on Moon Street.

Lovely pics as usual Dave, No.7 has me a little befuddled, you have the long exposure effect on the waterfall, but some splash/spray that you wouldn`t get with a long exposure.
Have you been making a pact with the Pendle witches whilst up there.

It was a bit of a blunder really but I used it a few times after, and it gives that effect. On my camera there is the option to dial up specific locations, this one was "night shot" which has predetermined speed, aperture and ISO already calibrated. however I had flipped the flash up for a previous shot and left it up. When I pressed the shutter it fired the flash, but the exposure was about 4 seconds (I have a tiny tripod) and the picture was the result. So I cant say its down to technique, more being a Muppet.

However it came about it certainly makes a good photo.
Update on the ice storm: we've had a few power flickers, but so far so good. Had a nice hot dinner, thanks (no sandwiches). I'm concerned that Eric's power might be out, as Kingston and area was hardest hit today. The worst is yet to come for us tonight, as another inch of ice is possible on tree branches and everything! There are already downed branches littering my driveway. The car is safely in visitor's parking.
A very windy day today, we did get a bit of sunshine as well though. No HDR tomfollery today, in fact, nothing but re-sizing.
1. Up near the windmills.
2 & 3. A couple of stream pics.
4 & 5. Some doggy mug shots.
6. I slipped on my ass more than once going down there.
7. First try at this effect.
8. Wasn`t expecting to see mushrooms at this time of year.
9. Don`t think that sunshine will last much longer.
10. It`s still poking through the clouds on someone.
The doggies look so happy to be out and about. Some nice shots here, and you got mushies too!

Really stellar shots Dave Mac! No.7-10 had me near breathless.

Its going dark around here at about 3.30 ish at the moment, today being the shortest for light, so I am playing around with the long shutter speeds and street light shots.
Its wet over here, but the weather is not as extreme as you are having, on an up side there must be an opportunity for snow shots.

There is some snow left, but now the ice is coating everything. It makes for treacherous driving, and walking! I've been busy in the art co-op today, and again tomorrow, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for interesting shots
