A walk along the canal, through the woodlands, Gt. Harwood then back home.

1-5. A selection of birds.
6. Wilsons playing fields.
7. Duke in the woodlands.
8. Flying off into the sunset.
9. The fishing lake behind Park View garden centre.
10. A milky wet bit.

Thanks, seen that lake loads of times walking along the road, but never went this close to it before. It was nice and peaceful.

Today in Pictures, a walk on the flat today, the canal, Cut Lane to Whitebirk, or to be specific the Rocket Centre.

1. Bottom end of Cut Lane.
2. So there I am snapping Pendle, this punnet of Gulls descended and scooped something from the canal and then vanished.
3. Some very sculptured clouds today.
4. Time for a thistle.
5. Just time for a bit of grass.
6. Clouds in action.
7. Pylons and in the distance, wind turbines.
8. Now heading back.
9. These clouds are getting on my nerves now.

That concludes two weeks of using my camera on the Aperture priority mode, sort of a test to see if I could manage without using the automatic mode.
Now a new test awaits, I shall be shooting for the next couple of the weeks in the RAW mode, I don't know if its warm enough for being in the nude .........I know just jesting. I have switched the RAW mode on the camera, and a big learning curve awaits, so not sure what type of output I will manage, but as I always say "He who laughs last is worth two in the bush.

Lots more editing options in RAW as i`m sure you already know, I have a RAW+JPEG option which I`ve been using, I have very rarely used the RAW files but they are there if they are needed.

The RAW files are a lot bigger as they capture all the information but don't make a picture, whereas JPEG's are compressed in the camera, white balanced and sharpened, plus a bit of colour correction, then turned into a picture in the camera.
Professionals recommend using RAW but I have backed off as it looked too complicated for me, I have Paintshop pro, and that looked complicated as well.
However I have been studying at the university of "You Tube" and decided to stretch myself a little bit. I may run out of the room screaming when I try to do it, but I have been shooting in Aperture priority for a fortnight and understand a little bit about shutter speed and ISO settings.
It's just a hobby when all is said and done and this helps to keep the interest there.

Aperture priority is my main weapon of choice also.
My RAW files are 20MB each and my hard drive is quickly filling up, I`m going to have to start deleting some of the older ones.
Not used paintshop, but the past couple of months I`ve been delving into photoshop, it was a lot to take in at first but I`m glad I`ve stuck with it. I try to learn a couple of new things a week, there are some brilliant things you can do with editing.
This week it`s "perspective correction" & "content aware scale"

Great pics Dave Love the birds in flight and reflections.When I take my DSLR out I shoot in Raw but my other camera hasn't got the option.

I have all that to come, as I have never processed a picture through it yet, it will be a big learning curve, so don't expect much from me next week, or perhaps up to bonfire night.

Its not the shooting in RAW that I have to learn, or even converting them to JPEG, its that step in between where you have to process the picture, in my case in Paintshop Pro. I have very quickly tried taking a RAW picture, and then converting it straight to a JPEG without touching the image, Photoscape will do that, but I am in the dark with that middle bit.

Those birds got in the way I was snapping Pendle and they just descended and dived at something in the water, I almost put my camera down to wait for them to go until it occurred to me to take a photo.

Dave I commend your approach. I wish I were brave enough to learn such things......I was once. Nowadays I really worry when there is a concept I think I understand and then I fall at the practical fence...it makes me feel a bit thick...and I don't like that feeling. There are enough people in the world who want me to believe I am losing my marbles as it is!

I have to admit I am jumping in with both feet and haven't a clue what I am doing at this side of the operation, but it makes it a bit more interesting.
