Today in Pictures, a slight departure from my landscapes, today I spent it in the churchyard, St James' Church Altham (1140 ad ). I find this area fascinating just reading the headstones. People who died around the world remembered on headstones The majority of prominent headstones are around the early to late 1800's, these were under the reigns of King George 3 through to and Queen Victoria, so world travel was not the luxury it is today.
1. to 6. fences around the dead, is this ornamentation, to stop grave robbing, or one last show of stature.
7. Looking down in the direction of the church.
8. A splash of colour.
9. The time that must have been spent carving this headstone, now its broken and toppled over.
10. This is a strange one, a big headstone with only one name carved on it, so presumable only one internment, but the thing is, there is a crown carved into the stone, not a common inscription. So perhaps something to look into later.
It depends, most days I`m a warehouse/production manager, but if it`s quiet I`m a delivery driver. It`s always quiet this time of year so I do more deliveries. In a month or two I`ll be lucky if I get out once a month.
Looking good AccyExplorer, not easy to do them, I had a go a few weeks ago.
I know what you`ve done on No. 1, you`ve rested the camera on the monument at the top, you can straighten that with most editing software.
