I have very much enjoyed the photos of fellow Accy Web snappers this past few days! I've travelled all over, and seen many wonderful sights I wouldn't get to see otherwise. Thank you all!
Here are a few pics from my last few days.
1. A storm is coming.
2. Look up.
3. 25th anniversary (well the unofficial one, blush!) lunch at a nice eatery.
4. Porcupine on display at a mall. I've never seen a live one up close, only dead ones on the road. Notice the quill on the floor to the right. No, these beasts can't shoot their quills at you, that's a fable.
5. A kangaroo in a pouch.
6. Some pots ready to go into the kiln for firing. I've been hankering to get this technique going for quite a while. A friend joined in with me to make it happen at our local potter's guild. A lot of preparation for this, and no guarantee of results, but it's fun!
7. Opening the kiln is like Christmas - always a surprise.
8. One of my pieces - it still has to separated from the pedestal and saucer. The pedestal raises it up, and the saucer catches the drips of this very runny glaze.
9. My friend's bowl - I'm quite jealous how well it turned out! No really, I'm beamishly happy for her - her first go round with this difficult technique
10. Closeup of crystals on the bowl.

I didn't realise you had porcupines in the wild over there, I wasn't sure where they lived but thought they liked warm climates. Nice pots, the design looks very delicate.

I took the photo thinking it could be spiderman's pad with all the aerials and the giant spider-web on the wall Had no idea they were radio aerials - I will take some more pics next time I go past there on my bike!
That house is actually on the outside of the village (not the Villa I meant which is old and was in the first set of picks, with loads of roses on the wall).
Do you have a different user-name for radio or are you both still "Dave Mac" and "Gremlin"? Is it CB-type radio?
Radio Amateurs have to sit exams to be able to transmit, the callsign is allocated by the governing body, mine is G4XEI,the regulations have changed a bit since I took the test, I had to sit a City and Guilds exam, and take a Morse test at 12 words a minute.
When I was active, I am not so much now, I spoke to a few people based in Italy.

Looking again at my pic of the porcupine, I thought I'd better Google it, as no porcy I ever saw on the road had quills as big as that! Turns out it's probably an Old World version of the species. We have lots of them here, not as big, but they can climb trees apparently

It would be interesting to find them in the wild. and if you were to come across them the smaller species is the better option, we have something similar over here, but much more docile........hedgehogs.

My dear old dad was a radio ham...our front room was his favourite place, it was full of his radio gear......he had cards from other radio hams pinned all over the chimney breast with their call signs on.
He used to sit up until the wee small hours talking to people all over the world.
I wish I could remember his call sign....but I can't.
I wonder if Ma kept any of the contact cards.

Another set from Sunday's trip to the River Po. The first 3 are of another friends place - he built the jetty for his boat (in photo 3) here on the farm. He's one of our tractor drivers. The crucufix is by a local artist called Spadari who lives there - another smaller crucifix is by his house - Casa Rosada - it's all a bit shabby chic but not contrived -just lots of old stuff (and folk!) around. Final photo is a warning sign - there's a hydro-electric power station up river and sometimes they open the sluice gates causing tidal waves - apparently there's a siren which goes off to warn people out on boats!

I used to do the same, I used to screw up the reception on my neighbours TV's as well, happy days.

Apparently there are some hydraulic plants if you read the sign.

I think that's what I meant -they are connected to the electricity company, I posted a photo of that place a year or so ago on a different trip to the Po. It's abbout 10-15 miles away up river.
