Re: Today in pictures

Men at work in the new cow barn taken just now when I'd finished in the office.

The man welding is the owner of the farm -he has returned to his origins as he started life as a metal worker!

One of the builders has a great beard which you just about see.

I wouldnt dare make up a name like that, I would be moderated into submission if I did. Yours (grass) the clue is in the name, stolonifera would indicate that reproduction would take place in the form of underground stolons, as well as the established way of setting seeds................you learn stuff on this thread, we should apply for lottery funding.

It all looks very technical to me, especially the shot of the man with the beard and a piece of paper.

Some got into the little planting areas where my bulbs were in our last place - it was murder. The more you try to pull it up the more it digs it's heels in. The stolons radiate out in all directions and put down new roots everywhere even in the stoniest ground. You think you've pulled up every last bit and it rears it's ugly head all over again -a lost battle!

I know its bit of a faff but translocated weed killer is the best way to get it under control, pulling at it just encourages it to travel. If it has got among your plants you have to be careful of over spray, cut the top and bottom off a small plastic bottle, put it over the weed and spray into the cut bottle.
Any weed killer with Glyphosate will do, as it travels into the plant and is non residual, and once it hits soil becomes inactive. Do you think this qualifies us for a lottery grant.

Re: Today in pictures

Today I have had a bit of an ecclesiastical day.
So if you do not like church architecture, statues, stained glass and that sort of thing....please look away now.
1) Stained Glass Window
2) The ornate Dome - I know I might have shown you this before, but I think it deserves a second look.
I love the form and the colours.
3) Looking down the centre Aisle. You can see the full splendour of this lovely church.
4) Another stained glass window.
5) The Lady Chapel.
6) Statue of a Saint(I am ashamed to say I don't know who it is though).
7) another one of the Lady chapel Altar.
8&9) morse of the beautiful stained glass.
10) Quick find the beadle...these two are trying to make off with the golden cross. Sorry for the levity. I will now go and say 40 hail Mary's and 16 Our Fathers.

The church is St Wilfrids in the centre of Preston.

Nice peaceful pictures, I think no 6 is Nobby Stiles, he has a football at his feet.

PS. I notice you are now a two camera operation, like myself, well done.

Yes, they both have their strong points.
I didn't want to use flash in the church and the lumix kept telling me to activate the flash.

I always feel a bit guilty taking pictures in church......and I am conscious that there are people who are there to complete their devotions.

Lovely -my Grandad (dad's dad) was a Wilf - very old English name.

Re: Today in pictures

Today in Pictures, not so much a walk, I just seemed to ricochet around the area.

1. Mercer Park, a Primula, smelling strongly of cheese.
2. Speaks for itself.
3. Nice flower but a sod to get rid of, Bindweed.
4. More tea Vicar.
5. A nice quiet corner........forever.
6. All Saints Church.
7. Reading the stone you can see the family went through hard times, but there is no excuse for calling your son Pickles.
8. A Rose, shedding a tear.
9. I said, can I have a cone, she said do you want "crushed nuts"...I said there is no need to be like that,... I just wanted an ice cream.
10. And that was the end of my bouncing about all over the place.....for a while at least.
