I believe the "area" is called fiddlers wood (bottom end of Clayton), there's a lodge managed by the butcher I fished there a few years back (very well stocked).
I know very little of the woods, although if you mooch around it the signs of industry line the banks. I can only speculate that the lodge was at one time used to feed the factories on the banks, but perhaps someone has more information.

They all do that in the center - they pay the council quite a lot for the privilege. The Italians love living out in the streets.
I can only assume then that the streets are closed to traffic, otherwise there would be a hell of a scuffle when the bus for Cleckheaton comes through.

I think the lodge was purpose built later by holt farm,Brian the butcher etc.... I found my old membership card:image.jpg.
I've never walked through towards great hardwood but I've had plenty of walks up and down the stream taking pics.I believe there's even a buzzard that hangs around that way (though I've never seen it)

There a couple of buzzards in the area, I see them regularly down the Dunk, I would imagine their territory could quite easily include that area.
Yes, I can remember having to run errands to make the money to buy a gas mantle when I(carelessly, I was told) shoved a taper through the one which was in use....and I have trundled along Nuttall St to Bob Wilkinsons for lamp oil. Them were the good old bad old days.

Envious of the buzzard pics g , I spent hours looking for one after I was informed of the usual whereabouts by a local bird watcher....well done
I think they cover a large area, gliding from one field to the next. Pot luck whether you see them or not, just keep looking up, they`re usually very high.
A selection from my walk yesterday afternoon.
The large red flowers were in a garden, about 20cm in diameter they look a bit like a giant hibiscus. The damsons were in the same garden - love their colour. The rose reminds me of pear drops for it's colour. The photo of the farm with the little weir in front put me in mind of Dave because of the water - it's part of the irigation systen and the water goes down off the center either side into the stream but also continues under the path and fills another channel on the other side. I was gutted that the common blue was slightly out of focus this time but the orange moth is a bit better. The two ladies in the village are both 75 and often stop me for a chat when they see me out walking...
