About 20-25 metres away, it was a young one & its mum was just out of shot. I also managed a piccy of the two of them grazing, I'll put that up tomorrow with a couple of the others from the week-end.

I was tutting at the size, I thought you may of uploaded it from photobucket (and that's not site policy).
Anyway,it's a lovely shot and full of detail,Nice one
Thanks for that - and sorry for getting defensive. I used to be on a bunch of photography groups where some users wouldn't even bother looking at the pic, they'd just head straight for the metadata to see if it had been saved out of photoshop.
I am just very envious of that shot. I have seen far fewer butterflies this year.......and the ones I have seen have been the Cabbage white variety.
The colours and the definition are pin sharp....well shot
Thanks Margaret. It was just done reaching out with my mobile phone while standing on one leg with the other sticking out for balance.
I was actually thinking this is a better year than it has been recently for butterflies. That was the easiest to get of the three that were buzzing me. There was also a red admiral, but it was knackered (the back of one wing had a big chunk missing.
There also seem to be a load more bees around this year. I hope that statement's not tempting fate...

No problem S, (like Margaret) the only ones I've seen about have been the white ones.usually when I go to photograph butterflies they disappear before I can get my settings sorted so well done on capturing that shot

My Ma lives in a semi rural setting and usually I see lots of butterflies near her place....but this year they have been very few.
Seen lots of bees, but few butterflies.......and double well done that you took that on a phone.
I carry my camera everywhere I go. I am always ready to take a picture...well except when it is wet......I do not like to get my camera wet.

Today in Pictures, is really a week in pictures, a week when 28 hours per day had to be shoved into a 24 hour slot, but come hell or high water I managed an hour out with two dogs (1 a babysitting job) and my camera, probably the only way I have kept my sanity, I even managed to be out in the downpour today which resulted in me wetting my knickers.
1. Huncoat Colliery, this teasel is growing on what was once the line in and out for the coal by rail.
2. Dean Clough reservoirs, coming in from the pines.
3. Same location, just a bit further down.
4. Top end of the Millennium Baby Woods.
5. Still in the woods, wickthing on a Ragwort.
6. Altham, a walk toward the canal between the motorway and the industrial estate.
7. The Coppice, a must see sea of Heather.
8. A few strides from the monument and this appears.
9. And back to Dean Clough again, this time the bottom end just of Goldacre Lane.
10. Looking down the valley to Pendle Hill, when up Pendle this valley stands out, and the water reflects the sky.
That's the first time I have heard of anyone having withdrawal symptoms of a wet gusset.
But seriously, the pics are lovely.....and I have missed your input.
It is good getting a country walk without getting wet....and sitting in my own chair.

With some difficulty these days.
We are lucky that one taxi firm will go up the hill, but she still has to get to the pick up point.
I lug her wheelchair up the steps then go down and stay behind her while she goes up the steps....at least she would have something soft to fall on.....me!
