Just had a catch up of the week - what great photos from everyone, some real gems. Have really enjoyed perusing them all
I have been away on a short break to Lucca in Tuscany this week where I met up with my aunt and uncle. Left my "boys" behind and took way too many photos but it is an amazing town with complete bastions and walls surrounding it which are 500 years old and are a fantastic recreational area with spectacular trees and views. There are traces of the roman town in Piazza del Amfiteatro which is the only oval piazza in the world, lots of mediaeval buildings and churches and some more recent as well as amazing shops, many with the original art nouveau fronts intact . I also visited Palazzo Pfanner with it's lovely Italianate garden, the botanical gardens and the house where composer Puccini was born.
I immediately noticed that it is a bike friendly place so here's a first look at Lucca with pedal power in mind. Spot the tandem and monocycle!
Nice to see a theme woven into the fabric of an atmospheric place.
As usual I'm playing catch up .... again! These were Fridays jolly hol snaps taken up around Barrow in Furness & Ulverston so bear with me.
A grounded Trawler by Roa Island - Piel Castle - One of our Navies silent protectors - Conishead priory & Buddhist temple (Manjushri Kadampa meditation centre) x4 - Stan Laurel Inn Ulverston x2 - And a Lighthouse above Ulverston???
A cornucopia of lovely pics.....thanks son.
I really enjoyed looking at them....imagining myself to be there....without the imbuggerance of having to deal with traffic.

Dianne your pictures are delightful, and just what this thread was started for.
It shows a snapshot of your day.....what was going on in your little section of the world.
I love them.....they are ordinary, yet extraordinary.
A slice of life......I also think they resonate with me because, given the opportunity, they are the visual eavesdropping pictures I would take myself.

I like your 'more of the same' too.
They are just what I would have liked to have captured.
I like to catch shots of people doing what they do, without knowing that the camera is on them. The shots are more real somehow, and have a different feel to those shots where people know they are being photographed.
I love 5 and 6......they would both lend themselves to selective colour reduction very nicely......take the colour out of the background and just leave the men in colour.....think it would make for an interesting shot.......but that is just me!

1 and 8 outstanding backdrop, and probably not noticed when people are going about their business.
He was actually going on about Fascism so you are right in a way
Was lucky to catch him making that gesture but he was a typical Italian gesticulator!

Piazza del Anfiteatro in Lucca - unique place as it is a perfect oval. The mediaeval buildings sprang up around the remains of the old Roman amphitheatre. Any stone from that was slowly poached away for other buildings leaving the outline of the amphitheatre and the 4 arched entrances into it are where the gladiators used to enter it originally.
