Piazza del Anfiteatro in Lucca - unique place as it is a perfect oval. The mediaeval buildings sprang up around the remains of the old Roman amphitheatre. Any stone from that was slowly poached away for other buildings leaving the outline of the amphitheatre and the 4 arched entrances into it are where the gladiators used to enter it originally.
Was the pace of life as relaxed as the photos suggest. Interesting location by the way.
Some very atmospheric shots.
I especially like number five...those earthworks look very interesting.......I like seven as well.
That is a great capture.

The locals seemed to enjoy a very laid-back lifestyle - many getting about on foot or on bikes. Not many cars allowed in the walled town though the local buses thundered through during the day and didn't take any prisoners.
I really liked the feel of the place -there were lots of tourists but it still retained a small-town, intimate feel.

I love the coluur in them all - number 5 is such a great subject -I've never seen one in the wild - did you notice the little slug crawling up it?
I beg to differ though and say my favourite is number 6
I only know of a couple of sites that contain that fungi, but this year slugs have been in abundance, and yes I noticed that one crawling up the stem, they have got to most of the ones I have found this year.
