Where was I today?

Hi, been to Lytham today, just as we were about to "hit" the motorway, spotted an old path and some trees, so decided to investigate. Where was I? And I would like to know has there been a plaque at one time here (on the 4th piccy?)

Yep, it`s the canal at Clayton Wharf by the old sea scouts building. From what I remember the plaque is by a, now sadly overgrown/vandalised picnic area. Was it designed by local schoolchildren to comemmorate the area?

Has it been vandalised? There have been other plaques which were designed by schoolchildren and have now been vandalised.

The interesting thing about the picture on the left is that it clearly shows the switch of towpath from one side of the canal to the other...the horse would come through under the bridge, up the path on the side, over the bridge and down aprox. where Atarah took the picture. It's a good job they don't build motorways like that.

Re: Where was I today?

We lived on the other side of Blackburn Rd. There used to be wooden rollers fixed under the bridge to run the ropes through, for the horses.I cant believe how overgrown it is, it was always kept tidy the last time I saw it, 35 yrs ago. We used the canal bank as a short cut to bottom end of Clayton, or there was another way, further down Blackburn Rd, along side of English Electric. It came out by All Saints church. The bridge was where we waited for the barges they slowed down so we could throw our bikes on and go to Rishton, then ride our bikes home.
