Re: any frequent flyers?
I've flown seven times, I think, with Ryanair this year. The hold baggage allowance is tight, at 15 kilo's, as you are aware. If you happen to go over that allowance you will get stiffed at a rate of 12 quid for every kilo over the stated limit. When your bag is weighed, and is found to be overweight, you have to immediately go to another desk to pay the excess, before returning to the check-in desk with a proof of payment receipt; only then will you be issued with your flight ticket.
Don't worry though. Here is the good news. You can take one item of hand luggage into the cabin, weighing no more than 10 kilos, in addition to any hold luggage. There is a dimension restriction to the hand luggage of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, but with some creative packing you can make this work to your advantage.
With your flight, have you declared that you will be travelling with a piece of hold luggage? If not, you will have to pay extra when you get to the airport. That means a trip to the same payment desk as the excess baggage payment, before returning to check-in to collect your ticket.
If you are taking lotions & potions with you, try to pack them in your hold luggage. It will save a lot of hassle. Any medicines you need to carry with you for the flight, MUST be carried in a clear plastic bag. Each item must be no greater than 100ml, otherwise you will have it removed when going through security screening.
I hope this helps.
P.S. Which airport are you flying from?

Re: any frequent flyers?
You should fine travelling through Manchester Airport.
The important thing to remember is any medicines & make-up that you are carrying on your person, into the cabin, have to be in a clear, sealed plastic bag. Each item being no bigger than 100ml volume, but no restriction on the number of items in the bag. You cannot take drinks through the security screening, but once you've passed through security and are deemed to be "air side", there are plenty of opportunities to buy food & drink.
You can take your own food on-board the flight. You are not tied to buying food once on the flight. In fact I would strongly advise against it, as all the "cheap" airlines charge handsomely for their wares. Take your own crisps, biscuits, butties or whatever, with you. It will save you a small fortune compared with Ryanair prices. You can take the food through security screening without any problems, but not drinks. You can buy those after security, but before the flight.
Happy flying. I hope you get a window seat and a clear day. The views are fantastic.

And they will cost you about 4 times as much as in your local shops. Food and drink prices at airports, especially air-side, are extortionate and it makes me angry that, with the present restrictions on liquids, you have no alternative.
Enjoy your flight and, being RyanAir, just be glad you're not going from Liverpool.

On such a short flight, don't think Emamum will need much to eat Sparkologist, mind you, having experience of your appetite .. understand where you are coming from...
Gosh, £12 for each extra kilo .. that is where they make up their cheap fares then is it ? Monarch was only £6. At that rate would have cost me £156 !! Or is that the charge for short flights only ?

Re: any frequent flyers?
The buttys in Boots etc are quite cheap even airside. ryanair are as sparky says a pain on hold baggage.
I'm not sure how old Ty is, Siobhan had a seat but no allowance so we had 30 kgs for 3 of us. on teh way back we were 3kg over and they did charge. they also didn't allow pooling of weight. so each bag had to be 15 or less. i.e. 20 and 10 would have seen us charges for 5 kg.
a lot of people were clearly using all 10 kgs of their hand luggage to help with most having bags packed to teh hilt.
TBH we tend to put all creams etc in teh hold bags as it makes it a lot easier to get through security.
Make sure your socks have no holes as sometimes you have to take your shoes off!!! also belts etc all come off for teh Xray
your flight is sod all time so I wouldn't worry too much.
Oh, make sure you have sweets for Ty's ears for take off and landing to help equalise the pressure. We found Siobhan liked haribo jellys

Re: any frequent flyers?
flew by ryanair to murcia in spain and didn't even have hold luggage, was fortunate that we were going on a girly four day break at my friends villa so all potions and lotions were there, but as sparks said had to be creative on packing and deciding what to wear for the night's out!!!
so 30kg between two of you for 5 days is more than enough, just wear a T-shirt, shirt, jumper, trousers and coat onto the plane and then just pack a couple of changes whilst you are away... enjoy

Re: any frequent flyers?
well it sounds like you will struggle to use 1 x 15kg then, so I suggest you under pack two cases then you have plenty of room to bring stuff back

Imagine how much your excess baggage charge would have been if you'd been away for a whole week!
