Anybody know anything about Scooters?
Hi, I recently bought a scooter but need it looking at, does anybody know a local garage that deals with bikes or could anybody take a look at it for me please? The bike has been sat around for 17months but ran the other day but now will not start, not sure if I need a new spark plug or if I have flooded the engine or something.. Help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Anybody know anything about Scooters?
If it's 2 stroke (oil & fuel) pre mixed, try changing that & put fresh stuff in, I had the same problem with my chainsaw, the mixture degrades & doesn't work.

4 Stroke, I drained the petrol out and added more but still the same.. the lights turn on but it just makes this poor attempt at starting and wont work, not even the kick start will..

If its a two stroke and been left standing, the petrol will have evaporated in the carbourator leaving the oil blocking the jets,
first of take out the spark plug and check the spark gap, see if it still works, next would be to strip the carburator and clean the jets.
Retlaw.

Re: Anybody know anything about Scooters?
is it sparking? take the plug out, reconnect the HT lead and hold the screw part of teh plug against the cylinder using some insulated pliars( or even better if you can get it to rest there of its own accord without having to hold it. turn teh engine over and watch for a spark, it should be a nice blue strong one, anything yellow or just weak looking will not be good enough to run teh engine. If the spark is weak or not there, get a new plug, same again means the coil is suspect or its not getting a trigger ).
At teh same time as turning over above, you should see a slightly 'smokey' "puff" from the spark plug hole, this is petrol, and air at the perfect mixture so no ciggies! If its pure clean air then you aren't getting petrol, put your hand over teh hole and you shoud be able to smell teh petrol on it.

Re: Anybody know anything about Scooters?
Thanks for the advice, would be much appreciated if somebody could take a look at it for me as I have no idea what is wrong. This is going to sound really dumb but I cannot for the life of me find the spark plug, looked where I thought it was but its not. Can pop down any time any day apart from tonight as Stanley are on!
Hope somebody comes out there way to help, thanks!

Re: Anybody know anything about Scooters?
Look where the exhaust connects to the "block" of the engine, this will be on the side of the block, the plug is usually ( I haven't seen and engine in years that hasn't) on the top of the block furthest from the crackcase/gearbox bit. a lot of scoooters do have covers over the engine and plug now to keep water etc out so you may need to remove them to see them.
