they arent, they are much stiffer due to the way they work. tbh i never quite got why we needed it, i had an old Zephyr without it and you could steer that with 2 fingers.

How good it is to hear of someone else who doesn't much like power steering.
I had an old Fiesta that I loved.......my husband had a much newer car with power steering.....he said my old car felt like driving a tank.
I was loaned a car with power steering and it felt like I was driving a balloon on a string......it felt like there was no substance to it.
I was very pleased to have my heavy old fiesta back( I never had any problem steering it).

its also made a fortune for tyre makers as people sit there spinning the wheels whilst stationary which rips your treads and wears them much quicker. in non PAS cars it was always much harder so you learnt to only turn the wheels whilst moving(1-2mph is plenty!).
