Well, I too, have just started using the buses again after a gap of 20 or so years......and yes they are cleaner....but oh how long it makes the journey.
The bus to Preston took slightly more than an hour......and that was off peak.
I would dread to think how long it would take at rush hour.
When I had my little car I was used to whizzing about....not worrying about how much shopping I had bought because I knew it would fit in the car Ok....when you go on the bus you have to bear in mind that your shopping takes up space where you would like to put your feet.
The only good thing about it was it only cost 50 pence with my NOW card.

Re: Catching A Bus ?

We came back from the Royal Preston by bus last year(only because someone decided they wouldn't wait for a lift) and I can only describe it as a nightmare. A bus from the hospital to the centre, then a wait of about three quaters of an hour for a connection. As Margaret says that journey takes just over an hour and then another wait for bus from Blackburn to Accrington. Not a trip to take at the best of times much less when you have just spent three hours in a hospital!!!!

Re: Catching A Bus ?

Now I know why I drive a car. I work in Preston and half an hour at most for me to get to work. Didn't realise the bus journey was such a mare

At least she gets the peace to do her reading if that can be seen as a bonus

Re: Catching A Bus ?

I can sympathise with the length of time it takes to get to places by bus. If I have a lift from here to our temple near Chorley it takes about 20 minutes. If I try to get there myself by public transport I need to leave the house before 8am in order to get there for 11am! One bus from home to town (or walk io=f it isn't raining), one bus from Accrington to Blackburn, one bus from Blackburn to Chorley, which goes on a nice long country run, and another bus from Chorley to the temple.

Re: Catching A Bus ?

Here in Oldham, where I live, should take 20 minutes to
to Oldham center.

In the morning's between 8 and 9 am it can take twice as long, and cost at last guess £2.20 for a single or £3.50 for daysaver with First buses.

I catch train even though I work at Middleton a mile further on from Oldham (The train station is near work as is bus stop) the weekly fare if £20.30 Rochdale to M'ch return and my fare is £13 on buses.

I prefer trains as they're more reliable, so worth little extra in my eye's.

Re: Catching A Bus ?

It only takes half an hour on the train to preston from Accrington. When i went to the hospital caught the train from accy £6.30 return (now i have a pass it will cost £4.15) then walked down to the bus station and it costs £1.10 up to the hospital and drops you off at the outpatient doors.

Re: Catching A Bus ?

Willow my nephew has just started work in chorley and he lives in helmshore. Either his mum or his dad takes him in the morning, coming home he gets a bus into preston and catches the train back to accy and bus up the road to hassy. Takes him about 2 hrs including walking home from hassy.

Oh boy ... now I know I'm over the hill and on the way down the other side. I can remember when it was fourpence, maybe even threepence And the train from Accy to Ossy was only three halfpence, half fare one way.
