'Short-chain' Omega 3 is the phrase I was looking for. There is virtually no value in it yet companies can advertise spreads, etc as containing health improving Omega 3 by using the short-chain instead of the long-chain variants quite legally.

I was listening to quite a lengthy debate about it a few months ago on Radio 4 and the Food Standards Authority aren't overly pleased.

I understand you now.
I use only cod liver oil, organic butter and extra virgin olive oil, so haven't seen the ingredient list on the artificial foods you mention.

I take a capsule every day and find it helps my joints.
