Cod liver oil
As i'm getting on in life a bit now i've started taking cod liver oil to help my joints (going to the gym kinda makes them hurt) a mate of mine told me that they help him when he's doing his weights, he's 46 so might need them a bit more than i do......do they really help though? is there any proof? i've only been taking them a couple of days so i won't feel any difference yet
do they or don't they?

Re: Cod liver oil
I take 2 tablespoons a day.
Such a high dose is not needed in normal circumstances, but I am attempting to repair nerve damage in my arms. It is having an effect - some tingling has returned to previously numb fingers.
Improvements in nutrition don't have the instant effect that pharma drugs do, but you are 'curing and preventing' not just masking symptoms, so keep taking them.
It will help lots more than just joint mobility.

Re: Cod liver oil
If there is all this cod liver oil around then is that not as bad for this fish population as the Spanish fishing fleets?

Re: Cod liver oil
It really is what suits you personally. I take Omega 3 Fish Oil capsules - 71 this year and have been taking them for over 10 years. So they work for me.

Yeh Barry, but aren't they supposed to be good for the brain cells too.... Only kidding.
Dunno' Flashy ... don't suppose can ever be proved. Have known lots of people with joint problems who swear by them. My mum would leave us a Cod Liver Oil capsule next to our breakfast plate every morning. Had them regular for 21 years. Now, neither mum, brother or myself have any signs of arthritis (nor dad, but he died at 62) ... don't think this is proof either, could just be an hereditary thing going on.
Don't think will do you any harm so worth a try.

Re: Cod liver oil
A mate of mine was told a spoonful a day makes you feel young again, so he wasn't surprised when he did a very childish thing

Re: Cod liver oil
Cod liver oil certainly won't do you any harm and is considerably better for you than all this Omega 3 which is purportedly knocking about.
There are several strands of Omega 3, some of which do absolutely nothing at all to improve your health but can be promoted on packaging as it is still technically Omega 3. It's something of a buzz word which won't be tempting me to buy anything.

There are several different chemical variants which can all be labelled as Omega 3 though, some of which have almost no benefit in the quantities found in the products.
The best option is a spoonful of good old cod liver oil itself.
