Re: decorating help/info required....

Get some 3 X 2 and some plaserboard and under-draw it to a reasonable height, saves on heating bills too failing that its ladders off the stairs, scary but its possible

Re: decorating help/info required....

Put a ladder on the stairs resting on the wall above them and a trestle on the landing (or top big step) at the top of the stairs. Then put a substantial plank between the trestle and the ladder.

The SAFEST method is to invest in one of these;

If you can justify the cost of £90 then they do come in handy for quite a few jobs. You can hire them for about £20 a day I think from a hire shop.

Ah but how do you wallpaper over it if you can't get up there?

They are very good but that one might not be quite tall enough to reach mine. We have 10' ceiling downstairs and 9' upstairs so it is quite a drop when you are painting that top corner. I know I did it

Create an elaborate pulley system with counter weights and balances.

My dad was a decorator in the 60's and always used the ladders and sturdy plank system. I tried it when I was painting mine a few years ago, I have no head for heights and had a bit of a wobbly start but I managed it. Good luck.
