You have just answered your own question there panther!!!

If a person does not get chicken pox when they are young, they end up getting shingles later on in life!!! I have nursed a fair share of people with shingles...... and that is why, I would do anything for my kids to have chicken pox NOW!!

Re: free to a good home- Chicken Pox

seems i was right.....

Anybody who has ever had chickenpox can develop shingles, and most people do have chickenpox in childhood.
People who have not had chickenpox cannot get shingles (some people with shingles claim that they have never had chickenpox - but this probably means that their original bout of chickenpox was so mild that it was not noticed (sub-clinical) or that the patient has forgotten because it was so long ago).

Yes, I stand corrected!!! Just been reading a few articles ... very interesting, glad we brought the topic up now.

BUT, I still would prefer them to get it young.... they are lads you see, and you know what fully grown men are like with even a cold

A bit of bicarbonate of soda in a cool bath helps, the creams you need are either Eurax or there is a calamine and glycerine cream, it stays on longer than the lotion. The anti histamines should be helping too.

Re: free to a good home- Chicken Pox

well - i have been told that putting essential oil - lavender in a warm bath helps with the itching

and shingles cannot be caught from chicken pox - but chicken pox can be caught from shingles when they are at the blistery stage
shingles lies dormant in your nerve cells and you can get it only if you have actually had chicken pox ( being exposed to chickenpox virus doesnt mean you will get lots of pox - you may only get a couple and think they are a heat rash but your body will build the antibodies for it - you just may not get many symptoms)

bless i hope he is better soon

( i also heard that vinegar in a bath with warm water can help - but i know which i would prefer to try

another very old remedy to take the itch out of the skin is oatmeal baths.....and it doesn't need to be as messy as it sounds.....you just put a handful of porage oats into the leg of a pair of old tights and let the hot water run through it until it runs clear.....discard the oatmeal and then add cold water to make a coolish bath.....leave the lad in it for as long as he is comfortable and then pat dry with a soft towel.
(if you leave him a bit damp it will help keep him cool too.)

i should imagine that this would help lots - one of my charges has really bad flare ups of excema and she has a natural - oatmeal based cream - i couple of days of putting it on twice a day and it has cleared up
works better than any excema cream i have seen

I remember using this old tip many years ago when daughter had chicken pox and it worked a treat. I have also used essential oils to relieve itching and promote sleep......but they aren't something that everyone will have in the home...whereas porage oats maybe in the back of your cupboard..please note Ready brek won't do
