I have a DC7 Animal, a pale lounge carpet, and a black cat.
Before I got the DC, I was shampooing the carpet every 2 months. After getting the DC I realised that the carpet had been having black fur embedded deep in the pile which it now doesn't have, and life is easier.

I do not see any dustcloud - maybe it is all trapped in the large clumps of shed fur.
The dust I used to see collected by my old machine was finer and did escape from the bag when I was disposing of it. Maybe I am now trapping fine dust another way- my Goodsphere/Pureair machines contantly 'wash' the air and do collect a fine sediment in the water (changed daily)
