just a thought ( personal security )

Just a thought... when you buy expensive goods don't put the receipt in the bag, something I always do... because in this age of crime if someone runs up to you to steal the bag, in the street say: they will have the receipt to take it back to the shop ( in time ) to get money back....( easy for them )

You should always buy expensive stuff on credit card, as it gives you more protection- sometimes even insurance against such robbery. It also means that any refund should(!) get credited to the card - so you get the credit even if you don't get the item back.

I do wonder why you can't just report it to the police and the shop and if someone tries to get a refund for the same item on a card with your last few digits, they get questions asked. Would that be enough evidence?

I went to see Midge Ure in Manchester last week. He started talking about this fight that erupted in the stalls before he even came out on stage. Turns out some bloke had bought tickets for seats a few rows behind the ones that had been in his wallet when it was stolen.

Re teh CC refund comment, the shops are actually forced to make the refund back to the card as well, i.e. NO cash refund for stuff bought on a CC. Otherwise people could use this as a method of getting cash outoin a CC without teh relevant cash advance fees.

I whole heartidly agree that anything over 100 quid should be bought on CC as it gives you so much protection for no cost its daft not to.

It also makes sense because the items bought on your credit card are also insured against damage and lose, for ninety days (I think, ninety days that is)

Re: just a thought ( personal security )

And while your at the till, just pull out a pen & write on the back what it's for.
Often a receipt can fade within the warranty period.
If you have an extended warranty, write "keep till xxx date" on the back too.

Put your handbag strap over your head & shoulders, zip up your zips & don't keep your wallet in your back pocket. Carry an AK47 just in case a bunch of terrorists hijack the bus.
