Kitchen tips that will "change your life"
Came across this and wondered if anyone had any kitchen tips/advice
It's worth reading the comments for a laugh.
The brilliantly simple kitchen tips that will change your life | Mail Online
My tip:
As a child I use to always wonder why there was a apple in with the spuds, one day curiosity got the better so I asked mother.
She said "it's to keep the potatoes from budding, I thought she was taking the Michael but apparently it works

Re: Kitchen tips that will "change your life"
The only tips I've ever had are the ones my kids leave me to wash up every morning.

Re: Kitchen tips that will "change your life"
they won't change my life much...many of them I already know.......and the ones about chilli, garlic and such like, would not be used because those things are not seen in my kitchen(I'm strangely averse to foreign muck).
Missing ones......Dried orange peelings are good for lighting the fire(it has to do with the orange oil in the skin).
Kiwi fruit skins are easy to remove if you use a spoon - Just slide it under the skin and rotate the fruit.
Rhubarb leaves are good for taking stains out of aluminium pans...but make sure you bin them once boiled they are poisonous.
I'm sure I could think of more if I really put my mind to it.

Wow, you really are a mine of info M
Not that I think any of our members are likely to be wasteful when it comes to alcohol but, don’t throw out any leftover wine. Instead, freeze it into ice cubes and use them in casseroles and other dishes that require a splash of wine

I heard a (good) tip today if it works. If (like me) you tend to burn things from time to time instead of scrubbing pans like mad, boil some cola (any cola doesn't have to be the well known corporate stuff) in the pan and it lifts the burnt food/stains without the need for scrubbing and it's none toxic......well so they say

Re: Kitchen tips that will "change your life"
Soda crystals or liquid soda crystals also do a fine job.
I cannot remember the last time I burnt a pan.
When I am cooking I always put a timer on.....and usually am within hearing distance of this.
I don't want folk to think I am a clever clogs, but it is just a matter of applying common sense.
Just watch...now I have said that I will burn the spuds today .

Re: Kitchen tips that will "change your life"
Being the clean as you cook type of fellow M, any tips that safe me scrubbing pots and pans with the old fairy liquid are much appreciated.
I use soda crystals to clean out the washing machine from time to time so that saves me buying
Bonus tip:
Rubbing the inside of your pan with a little oil when cooking noodles, rice, spaghetti etc will prevent the water from boiling over.

Re: Kitchen tips that will "change your life"
Putting a spoon(wooden) into the pan has much the same effect.

Re: Kitchen tips that will "change your life"
No, I didn't......my Sunday Roast is planned like a military operation. I could do it in my sleep.....and blindfolded.
In fact on the odd times I haven't done a roast I feel quite 'at a loss'.
It gives my Sunday it's landmarks...yes, I know it's sad!
