Landline Problem

I have a problem with my landline (have had for days and it is driving me insane now!) When I pick up the receiver there is nothing, no dial tone etc, when people call me the phone rings but when I pick it up it is just ringing at me down the phone so i dont get to talk to whoever is calling me. I have tried allsorts to resolve it myself but had no joy. I reported the fault online with BT on friday but as of yet nothing has been sorted.

Can anyone recommend things that I can try here to see if the fault is at my end?

Thanks

Re: Landline Problem

Until I can get to someones house to ring BT I'm stuck, aint ringing them from my mobile, with the length of time that it takes to get anywhere with them it will have cost me a fortune

Re: Landline Problem

Hi Emzy
If you are using the same landline to send messages to Accy Web
then it can't be your landline. Can you borrow another phone from some
one plug it in to your socket and test, had a similar problem, turned out to be one of the connections inside a twin socket had broken off

Re: Landline Problem

If you have any extention sockets unplug all the phones. Then plug your phone back into your main socket then try again. If that works plug in your extention phones one at a time. Years ago i had a similar problem and that's what i was told to do, and it worked. Hope it works. (Doubt it but worth a try.)

Re: Landline Problem

I recently had to report a problem to BT on behalf of my mum who is in harrogate and they said there are some good checks you can do for yourself in the front of the phone book.. but due to them being pensioners and the older wiring they sent someone out free of charge... turned out it was the wiring in their house and anyone else could have been charged for the BT call out!
