Can't understand these people with a cleaning fixation, everything I use in the kitchen is self cleaning.

If for example I use the same plate over and over eventually it builds up a crust the weight of which at some stage will cause the remains to no longer adhere and fall to the floor, all that's needed is a little patience.
Before

After

Yes I know they are two different plates, that is to show how posh I am and that I can choose which one to eat off!

Re: Mmmmm Smell The Beans

A serious answer to what I assume/hope was a serious question. The reason why coffee always loses its aroma once the bottle/vaccuum pack is opened is because the the thing that causes the smell in the first place is the oils in the coffee bean - and they are "volatile". That is, they disappear when exposed to air. Which is why you always get such a wonderful "hit" when you first open the pack.

I love fresh coffee, and my solution is to use coffee that I have freshly ground from beans and to make it in a cafetiere (not a filter) with water that is just below boiling. That way, though the beans still lose some of their smell and flavour once the pack is opened, more of the aroma is retained because it is still inside the bean.

"Are there any other products out there that give off their own mouth watering scent that give us that 'feel good' factor?"

Freshly baked home-made bread gets my vote - I just bought a breadmaker and it's brilliant. The smell permeates the house and the fresh bread tastes wonderful. One of the best buys yet!

And second to that is freshly baked home-made cake.

Actually, so do I. As an ointment it smells good, but I can't say I would particularly like to eat it. Still, they do say root beer is an acquired taste - and once you've got the taste, you're hooked. I wasn't in America long enough to get hooked. I don't know if you can get it here these days?

Judging from articles I have read on the subject, it's actually just the opposite. If you want to preserve the aroma of coffee (and hence it's flavour) you should keep it in the fridge or, even better, the freezer. That "sets" the oils that carry the smell and flavour. You won't get that "hit" of smell when you open the jar/packet, but the coffee will taste better.

Of course, coffee will always deteriorate in time - so the best way to make really good coffee is to buy it in the bean and grind it yourself just before brewing. I like to buy various kinds of beans and experiment with different blends.
