Mmmmm Smell The Beans

Just opened a new jar of instant coffee, and as usual you unscrew the lid, then you have to remove the foil seal and oh yes, gosh, but as soon as you do that, the tantalising aroma of fresh coffee wafts it's way through your nostrils, gorgeous!
The next time you go to that jar and unscrew the lid though, you know there will not be that same strong smell.
I just wonder, why not? The jar has only had a couple of spoonfuls removed so the bulk of the coffee is still there, yet to get just the slightest whiff from the jar your nose has to be almost buried in the granuals.

Just two questions.

1/ Do you suppose before they seal the jars they pump essence of coffee into them just to make us feel we have opened a quality jar?

2/ Are there any other products out there that give off their own mouth watering scent that give us that 'feel good' factor?

Just another thought

Yes I do smoke, but I can still smell when someone has recently used the bathroom, shouldn't smoking reduce that as well?

Try shaking the coffe jar before you next open it. It might work or I might be talking out of my a*** like usual.

Maybe the coffee granules are still hot/ warm while they are being packaged thus producing the captured fume? Try warming up the coffee in the jar and see if that works.

I used to love the smell of Old Holborn tobacco before it was smoked.

I love the smell of baking bread. You can smell it wafting through the house a bit whilst it's cooking then when you open the oven door it's full on flavour.

I may as well ask before neil does, what does an oven door taste like Gayle?

You can buy coffee that is 'instant'?

That's my grinder in the bin then, and the only exercise I get out of the window.

What a good friend you are Less, saving Neil the onerous task of pulling my pigtails again!

Oven doors, as you well know, are extremely tasty - they need a bit of seasoning though!

I prefer my oven door smoked, thats why if the instructions say gas mark 4 for twenty minutes, I set it at gas mark 8 for 40 minutes, to enhance the flavour, (the taste buds suffer because of my smoking as well, before anyone asks )

It's obviously the little coffee gremlins who are inside the jar holding down the lid. Once you've let them escape that's it you'll never smell them again.
