how did i know my freezer would come into this conversation lol

dads just been into a neighbours garden and pinched some comfrey leaves, just gonna look up what to do with it now

My dad used the leaves untreated for back pain.
The tiny hairs on the leaves penetrate some pores to let the sap in.
He made a 'grass skirt' of leaves on a string around his waist - kept in place by his underpants. I have never used them that way but he said it worked.

It is a pity that doctors are precluded from using, prescribing. or recommending herbal medicines which have been used effectively for centuries. This is because most herbals contain an uncertain mixture of compounds and are impossible to test in a pure form as required by current regulations for certified medicines. It IS possible to do harm by incorrect use of herbals (and it does happen) but I think this is quite rare and many people could be helped by them. It would be interesting to hear what other cures people here have found which worked for them.

Dave, My daughter has just done a degree in Homeopathic Medicine and the resistance to anything other than conventional medicine is great.......possibly driven by the need for Phamaceutical companies to protect their vast profits.
Pharmaceutical companies derive billions of pounds from the sale of their products, spend large sums of money coseying up to GP's, providing them with 'Seminars(at suitably opulent venues) Courses (in exotic and usually sunny places) all from the profits of their drugs.

With conventional medicine you are given something to treat your original ailment, but the side effects usually require another drug to be prescribed, and so on. All makes for a very healthy Pharma industry, but not so healthy patients.

OK, maybe not all the drugs are like that....and Yes some drugs are life saving.(Insulin, Digoxin etc) ....I know this from my 30 years in the health service, but I also know that there is room for more than one kind of treatment....and that these should be in every GP's arsenal of weapons to fight disease.....but I won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

Flashy, crush the leaves a bit and then pour boiling water over them......leave them until the water has gone cooler, but is still fairly warm. then apply them to the sore place and bandage on with a crepe bandage.......leave them on for a few hours, then replace them with fresh warm ones.

my dad said do it with a bandage, but i can't put a bandage on my shoulders can i lol, think i'll nip into town on mi bike and try the oil, it will be much easier, thanx Marg x

i have now got a poultice on each shoulder, i followed the vid that Margaret R put up, its not a great idea to use a hand blender though, it makes your kitchen rather messy
rather than putting flour with the mixture to thicken it, i just used less water, i can freeze these poultices too which will be good for when i'm not using them

oooooh, she used them with the flowers still on.......I was told by my witchy old Aunt that you should wait until the plant has stopped flowering.......the plant puts all its effort into the flowers and the leaves are less potent.......and apparently, the flowers don't have the same effect as the leaves.

ah i just used the leaves, don't know if they where in flower or not, didn't ask my dad..... i have them sitting on my shoulders with a tea-towel over them, i look like i have mega muscles now
