old treadle sewing machine

I have today decided to have a go at getting my grans old sewing machine to work. She bought it from Croasdale's sewing machine shopo which used to be along Blackburn Road, jut under the arches.
I cant get it to sew!!!! Help! Any ideas. I have remembered how to thread the spool, I have threaded the cotton reel (I THINK correctly) but... not sewing! Any suggestions?

Re: old treadle sewing machine

Have you tried doing a "non-stitch" ? Just wind the needle down and up again in the direction of stitching but without material there and see if it picks up the spool thread.

Re: old treadle sewing machine

Is your spool running the right way? Are your tensions correct?

Try turning the wheel manually(needle threaded) and watching if it picks up the spool thread.
There may be a problem with the timing, in which case you would need to have it serviced.
I may be able to help if I saw it. PM me if you wish
