This is a bit surprising. Must have looked amazing but wouldn't have thought they'd risk it in a plane so old.

Perhaps a bit daft but glorious. The Vulcan probably gets a more intense service after every flight than any other aircraft and as it was perhaps the last flight ever the crew decided to stick two fingers up to the regulations - they are civilians and so they can't be court martialled or reduced in rank.
In my opinion as long as they didn't endanger anyone else - bloody magic.

Screwed up, will have to have another go - I am trying to post a photograph from my picture library but not having much success - any advice will be much appreciated
