Saying sorry and really bloody meaning it shaz is constructive. Its the best thing you can do but dont just say sorry. Tell the person WHY you are sorry. Im not being nasty but you need to say sorry first before anything.

Re: what livens you up?
You have my sympathy. I have never suffered from depression but have heard from people who have, how debilitating it can be. I am told that you can't just 'cheer up.' That would be like telling someone with a broken leg to run a marathon. Like somebody else on here said, maybe bereavement counselling would help you. Maybe you should ask your doctor to refer you. I really hope you start to feel better very soon.

Re: what livens you up?
I have been there flashy and it does get better...and due to the treatment I went through I can now recognise the signs and have learnt coping mechanisms so I don't decend into that pit and you will know the pit I am talking about.
One day at a time, but please don't just stop taking your medication

Re: what livens you up?
Go to the health food shop and get some St johns wort flashy. But ONLY after you have come off the antidepressants. You CANT take both together.
Ask your Dr about getting some counseling, this may help but there is a long waiting list.
Visit some Internet sites about depression and find some self help measures.
An healthy diet, exercise, meditation.
At the end of the day it's down to you. Only you can stop yourself from falling down the black hole.
I often find that making a list of whats getting me down helps and start with amending the things you can do something about. if its a problem from the past, then remember what's done is done. You cant undo anything. take the good things and memories with you and move on.
Keeping a diary often helps just by the fact your writing things down and this helps remove the jumbled thoughts from your head.

Re: what livens you up?
Recognising that it's happening is a start. You know the 'I know I'm going to shout/scream/cry/walk out of here/be an idiot but can't help it'. 'Can't help it' is the thing that other people don't understand and some will be determined not to even try. If they've never had first hand experience then it's difficult for them and all the 'helpful advice' in the world often is just the opposite when it doesn't help at all and just ends up making you feel guilty. I've got a tape somewhere called 'bounce back' which a well meaning friend once gave to me when I was suffering and after playing the first few minutes of it I could have cheerfully stuffed it down her throat! The only reason I didn't is because I knew she meant well.
I think it's so sad that counselling isn't more readily available because I don't believe that tablets are always the answer but people who don't suffer from depression often don't understand that it is a real illness and you can't just 'pull yourself together' or cheer up. It causes a chemical imbalance in the brain so I've been told and that is why the tablets help.
Now to answer the actual question, what makes me feel better - smelly stuff like Lush bath bombs, those massage bars with essential oils, aromatic candles, candlelight in general, soothing music, ice cream (ok not good for the diet but what the heck), walks in the fresh air, peace and quiet. Some people suggest reading a good book but it's not easy to concentrate on reading when you are down.

Re: what livens you up?
she was davastated,(we all were) but shes not as bad as she was, its been nearly 7 years, and even though she getting better, she still has her moments.
it does take time, and as they say... time is a great healer.

Re: what livens you up?
Music, try some music.....when you are angry the bang crash type stuff is good......when you feel sad some of the slushy stuff...does it matter if you weep buckets?
Hope you start to feel better soon and that the forthcoming course helps you a bit.
