Re: winter jacket

i visit lots of these type of shops, and winfields isnt cheap, boundry mill believe it or not is cheaper.

but decathlon impressed me, with choice and price, would recommend anyone into "sports" check it out, as they do all sports not just outdoor junkies like me

I think Winfields tend to be cheaper than Go Outdoors when I have looked. I thought Go Outdoors were expensive but will keep an eye out for the offers

I bought a couple of base layer Regatta long sleeve tops with zip neck for £5 each at Winfields. They were in tatty boxes but who cares, the box goes in the bin
I agree though that some things they have are expensive.

Re: winter jacket

agree with you margaret .. but i only suggested winfields cos they do special offers that change every week, i do know that some of their stuff is expensive .. but mainly thats the top of the range stuff .. ive had jumpers from there that were a fiver .. i got a fleece with a waterproof lining for £15 ... its a case of what you want and what theyve got on offer .. .

Re: winter jacket

the problem i have is, i require lightweight & good quality, as i say when the temperatures drop below 0 on top of a mountain and you arent moving around you NEED the right stuff, but carrying it up there is the other problem

i often have people saying to me, "oh i have this sleeping bag, you want to see it its lovely and warm", but then it weighs 5 kg and rolls up the same size as my full pack, i have a 45 litre pack and that fits my tent, sleeping bag, cooker, food, spare clothes, socks, first aid kit , water bladder, head torch, torch, dslr, lens, tripod i have the weight down to about 13-15kg and even that at 3000ft is a chore, plus mine own body weight (wich should be less than it is)
thats why the down jacket was a bargain, i have a down sleeping bag too, because of the weight to warmth ratio.

but it does pay to shop around, thats why i spend my time flitting around, go outdoors is cheap but so are the products, winfields do sometimes have good offers on kit, so does the one on king st in blackburn, but the higher end stuff even with 20% discount is still expensive

thats why i thought i would let you all know about the down jacket, my son wants one now just for normal wear to travel to Myerscough

Re: winter jacket

When last over we had a nose round Ossy Mills, there was an outdoor place there "Mountain Warehouse", they're newish to the outdoor scene & as such were doing various offers, picked up a 3 in 1 Jacket & also a heavy fleece, paid about 60 nicker but got a voucher for 10% off my next shop.

Also picked up a Berghaus AQ2 jacket from an outdoor place in Liverpool, little more expensive but the AQ2 is a range that makes other bits of kit (various weighted fleeces/liners) that are interchangeable with the outer jacket, ideal for Cashys problem, in fact I put my Winter fleece in yesterday evening after being out with the Hound.

I just bought a Regatta airbed/campbed from Argos for £14.99
Mountain Warehouse often have very good sales on for stuff for outdoor pursuits

Re: winter jacket

i just got the self inflating 3/4 sleep mat from go outdoors, had a 20% discount coupon posted through door, again its what size and weight it packs down to, and this one is quite light and small when packed, being a poor dj, i can only afford the cheaper end of the scale

I use Decathlon - the one over at Surrey Docks (Mancie country). Despite being a frog outfit, they have some good stuff - beats the hell out of JB sports and all the other crap. It would be nice to see one open up around N.E.Lancs - maybe they could take over the Comet store at Whitebirk when that shuts next week.
